When I was a kid, I used to think that pain was a normal part of the eating process. As a result, I thought that people who described themselves as 'foodies' were very strange indeed. I later found out that no, most people weren't getting stomach aches after eating and that this wasn't a feature we all just accepted because we need food to survive.

I realised that actually, a nice meal can result in a warm comfortable feeling without any stomach aches later. That I have IBS and my stomach is sensitive. I also realised that the part of my brain that's supposed to tell me I'm thirsty does a terrible job at it, that I was often dehydrated which is why I was struggling with denser foods.

People tend to criticise my taste in food. I like plain and boring! My taste buds are turned up to eleven. Life is intense. I know I've had some strange looks when I've watered down my lemonade. Apparently some of the foods that have a strong smell to me simply smell of nothing or very little to quite a few people.

On the up side, I do tend to eat healthy. I remember in school I was told off for 'lying' about my food diary because it was 'too balanced to be real' but I was telling the truth.

I have misophonia so it can be difficult eating around others. Even my own chewing isn't great sometimes. Which is why I like to listen to music when I eat. It's calming.

I only hate eating if the food isn't to my liking or if I'm expected to break off doing something more interesting to eat. Or if I'm not hungry, but who would expect anybody to eat if they're not hungry?
