Nowadays..sorry to say but think might be safer if kids wore the bullit proif backpaks they were advertising awhile
back.. But still love the concept of halloween, whereas, in real life i eat about 3- 5 candybars a year..feeling like I can affordably spoil myself . And still periodicall y if am thinking some kid might show up , buy the candy ,and give it out while Watching " Its the great Pumpkin Charlie Brown " animated show. Nostaligia! Before my displays got vandalized , used to enjoy setting out animitronics props and little yard surprises. And scaring the kiddies, but if they got too scared, i always felt bad . One year a little girl never made it past the front street up my driveway, before she ran away. No sidewalks here either but a pretty little culvert over a ditch leading up to house. inside the culvert
was legs kicking up and down, and endless loop recording of the sound of a wolf growling and crunching on bones.
Durn parents shouldnt of let the kid approach the house by herself, She missed all the other things going on up the driveway.

Had a lot of good Halloweens. Costumes, candy, fireworks.

Before Covid I went to a few gay Halloween parties.. omfg best costumes! Like Hollywood movie magic costumes & makeup + slu*ty costumes and slu*ty boys. 8)

This year I bought a bag full of fireworks out in the valley. Must be reserve land or something as they sell fireworks year round there still! Used to be sold year round when my mom was a kid, then only sold for Halloween when I was a kid, and a couple years ago they banned sales entirely due to injuries and property damage.

As long as the weather is good I’m gonna take the fireworks to the beach and we’ll shoot ‘em off over the ocean. 8)

Yeah it's a shame for the animals because they don't know it's a bit of fun.

Fireworks on Halloween used to fill the air with smoke so thick it was hard to drive through on some blocks! 8) Used to be certain families/neighbours would pool money to do big displays, and punk kids would have tons of firecrackers smuggled across the border from the USA. (possibly from Indigenous Reserve land in the USA vs. sold everywhere in the USA I dunno) Teenagers would also have "roman candle wars," shooting them at each other on the playing field down at the jr. high school etc - kinda dumb af.. I never partook in that stuff - roman candle ball swill burn under water!! 8O If one ever got caught in your clothes you'd have one hell of a scar. F that.

We don't have 4th of July fireworks.. buuuuut, I only live 10 miles North of the border sooo they're not far away. My parents have taken my sister's family down to Point Roberts (a little piece of Washington State trapped in Canada lol google map it) to watch 4th of July fireworks down there a few times, especially since it's my great aunt's birthday. (She's 91, still golfs, drives a red convertible mustang, is a dual citizen and when she was very little thought the 4th of July fireworks were for her birthday! )

Verrrrry few fireworks for Halloween here now.. but people still seem to get a few - like I did - and also people light them off more and more for Diwali, and a little bit for new years. Other than that it's only Very Rich people who get permits for private fireworks displays downtown once in a blue moon for some celebration or another.. and then we have the Celebration of Lights international fireworks competition that takes place in English Bay where M A S S I V E fireworks displays are shot off synchronized to music for 45min to an hour 3-4 Summer nights - Wednesdays & Saturdays approx late July to early August. They draw nearly half a Million people to the beaches to watch the fireworks each night. It's quite the sight to see/experience ~400k people trekking up the closed streets of Vancouver to make their way to trains and gtfo to wherever they came from. Usually mostly well behaved, but sometimes some drunk jerks and fights and things as with any large crowd. It's neat when some pyro team from half way around the world shows off some kind of firework I've never ever seen before. Sometimes the displays are Ok, but sometimes they're s p e c t a c u l a r. 8)

I liked Halloween a lot when I was a kid and a teenager and used to do the whole trick or treat thing. These days I like the decorations but I am somewhat indifferent to it overall.

Should be a time to make sure kids still have a fun time, IMO. Make sure to hand out treats, and ideally wear a costume yourself.

My sister-in-law runs an annual Halloween Market as a benefit to the local hospital foundation where she works as a registered nurse. She LOVES Halloween and all it's decorations. The market has grown so changed locations this year to a site with two buildings. A bunch of vendors selling Halloween decorations, crafts, costumes, confections and all related things. She has people in costumes to entertain kids, face painter, cotton candy machine etc etc. It's become a bit of a big deal for makers who tour around selling their goods at various craft fairs and markets. Her own business makes super fancy looking soaps - so she makes a bunch of Halloween themed ones as well as a lot that Look Like desserts, complete with hand painted details.

I think adult celebrations are going to all be on the Saturday the 28th this year, so depending on the weather maybe that's when I'll shoot off fireworks. For the 31st I'll probably stay home and hand out candy.

We always decorate our window. We live in a flat though so we don't usually get callers

Yeah, here I think the only kids that might go door to door inside a condo/apartment building would be residents IF the building participates.. but that's much more difficult in modern buildings where people only have access to the floor they live on.

And that's why townhouse complexes will see record numbers of kids lol people from condos taking their kids to a dense little walking neighbourhood to trick or treat.

Mind you, maybe not as many as years passed.. well, in some areas. The more expensive the area of town, the fewer kids there are. A lot of elementary schools in Vancouver have permanently closed and kids travel farther to go to school... but the suburb city I live in - every school is bursting at the seams with portable buildings on the grounds to jam kids into.

It's mostly people from collectivist cultures having kids these days because they have the income & support of multiple generations in one household to be able to care for kids. Otherwise many people are opting not to have kids Or moving away because they want to have kids and it's financially impossible to do here on a couple of regular working class incomes. Overall, my guess is that the local birthrate is declining sharply due to $$$.

It was so great when I was a kid, me & my mom always put Halloween decorations up in my childhood house, my fave decoration was a skeleton, we had a skeleton on our front door. We had decoration drawers in the kitchen, our kitchen was big, holidays were big at my house, we had decorations for Halloween, Christmas, Thanksgiving, I don’t remember if we had Easter decorations, but we made Easter eggs, that would fun & crave out pumpkins for Halloween. Memories - everytime I think of one of my memories, it like I’m back in time again, reliving it, I still remember ALOT of my childhood house & memories there, that was over 40 years ago. One year, I thought this one house on my street was haunted.

Junie Harper says Halloween is how the devil recruits.

I miss Hallowe'en.

Now I'm too old to go Trick-or-Treating, and I live where Hallowe'en is just something "those Americans" do.

Everyone here is obsessed with All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day.  Instead of Tricks-or-Treats, they parade their religious icons (e.g., Idols) throughout the town and disrupt traffic.

I'll stay home and play video games instead.

When I was about 9 I went trick or treating and one homeowner asked me what 'Trick or Treating' was, looking back they must have been taking the piss but at the time I was incredulous while trying to explain what it was.
