Bah! I still can't see it, thanks for the verbal description.

If you look like this irl, then you are probably autistic:

If someone told me I didn't "look" autistic, I'd aggressively info-dump about serial killers and spam their email with tv show episode synopses until they apologize.

Folks with Down's syndrome have a certain physical look.

But not folks with autism. Autistics just have the same features as non autistics.

Unless by "look" you mean...dress style.

For men that would mean ...having one shirt tail tucked in and the other tucked out, or wearing plaid pants WITH a plaid shirt. Like that. Lol!

If thats what they mean then...its kinda fair to say that someone who dresses that way "looks autistic".

Some people don't look autistic. My sister does not. She is quite physically attractive.

But then again, some autistic people do in fact look the part, either because they look weird, or dopey. Some look down right strange, whether this is because they are autistic, idk, but damn they are ugly.

Some autistic people, like Elon Musk have glazed eyes, a kind of "mouse like" appearance I've noticed among aspergic peoples.

"Seem" is probably a better word than "look" since it's not physical appearance.

However, people that have ASD Level 2 or 3 are usually obviously autistic. Their behavior and mannerisms are usually what most people think of when they hear "autism."

ASD Level 1 often doesn't have or often masks those behaviors and mannerisms.

But I also have this shirt that I wear to the grocery store, etc.

I'm enough of an old geezer now, and retired to boot, that I don't care if people know. And maybe it will help break the sterotype

Was super surprised when multiple people told me they already thought I was a diagnosed autistic 8O (this was prior to diagnosis)

I was diagnosed officially today - and I’m still unsure if/when/who I will tell about this.
And these kind of comments in the first post, around ignorance of autism, is the thing that’s stopping me being sure what to do.
I have no shame being on the Spectrum, yet I feel guarded. Just imaging having to ‘explain’ to people is exhausting!

This is a personal choice and impossible for anyone to tell you if it's advisable or not as we don't don't know who you are telling. I'm pretty sure everyone here has a story or two about divulging the diagnosis and it having a negative impact.

Good luck though if you decide to tell anyone and Welcome to WP :)

I treat my diagnosis on a 'need to know' basis.

Thanks, your response resonates very much with my thinking so far. I appreciated the welcome too, good to be here :)

Before I was diagnosed at age 56, for 20 years every time my wife was about to take my photo, she said: "for once, just this time, relax and look natural" adding "you always make some strange facial expression that makes you look autistic!" So, for some reason it seems like I look autistic in photos.
