Heather Nova. By far my favourite female musician. Her albums "Oyster" and "Siren" were outstanding and although it sounds very minimalistic and ethereal I also love her album "Glow stars". Go onto any good music site and listen to songs such as Verona, Walk This World, Winterblue, Paper Cup, Heart and Shoulder, What A Feeling. Fantastic vocals.

Thea Gilmore, nobody knows of her really, and I think she wanted it that way because her songs are aimed at a select genre of people, but she is one of the finest lyricists. I really hope I meet her one day! I met her friend and fellow songwriter Kathryn Williams at a small show in Nottingham once.

I just discovered Regina Spektor, I almost passed her over because she has a couple of singles out for her new album which honestly are probably the weakest on it. Downloaded her album on the weekend, loved it, and have it on order now.

It's an odd mix of styles, some rock, folk, classical, jazz, I don't really know what to call it. It makes excellent night time listening.

Regina Spektor

The video was produced by an individual separate of Regina Spektor; I'm not a huge fan of it.

Ok, found some proper videos of Regina Spektor. These are a couple of my favourites on her newest album.

This is a song released on Aussie Clare Bowditch's new album, Moon Looked On. It's called When The Lights Went Down.

Another Aussie singer, Holly Throsby, with her song Making A Fire.

Australia singer Lisa Miller

No video clips of her on Youtube, as far as I can see.

Since someone mentioned Kate Miller Heidke earlier, here's one of her songs.

Yup, agree. Angela Gossow from Arch Enemy. That girl makes other male metal vocalists look like Bono. Janis Joplin too. Always good to hear a woman sing the blues.

Sarah Blasko won the best pop release at the Arias last night. Well deserved I say, a pity she didn't scoop up the best female artist from Missy Higgins as well. Missy Higgins' second album is a tad boring imho.
