You still use quotes from those Heritage Minute TV ads such as "Doctor, I smell burnt toast!" and "Both of you know I canna read a word."

The four seasons where you live are almost winter, winter, still winter, and construction.

You went trick or treating as a kid wearing a costume that needed to be big enough to wear over your snow suit.

And you used a pillow case as a goody bag.

You're English speaking and live outside of Quebec and the only French you really know is what you've read on bilingual boxes of cereal.

If someone says "I'll be there at eight o'clock", you say "And eight thirty in Newfoundland!"

You get excited when someone famous from the USA actually mentions Canada, or even better, the province you live in.

You see nothing strange or even almost alien about buying your milk in plastic bags.

You take your shoes off whenever you enter a house and you don't live in Japan.

You find it hilarious when Americans get stuff about Canada wrong, but you're too polite to correct them.

You apologize to a door.

You actually understood this list.

A Canadian while visiting the USA was walking down the street at night when a mugger suddenly jumped out from an alley and pointed a gun at him.

"Give me all your money, and I'll let you live!" the American mugger growled.

"Oh, you must be a doctor!" said the Canadian.

In America, cereal boxes have BACKS and when I was a kid, they would often have games, puzzles, and even entire stories you could read while eating cereal.

I love how Canadian retail works. First, Ontario invites megalopolies to enjoy a monopoly on beer sales. Then Premier Ford pays close to a billion to get out of it so that the corner store can sell beer (vote for me!! !). I'm sure, beer will be cheaper at Loblaws than at anywhere else.

Not to be outdone, former Premier Wynne "fixed" Ontario Hydro so it would be green but had so much debt that the average lightbulb costs $1 billion a month to run. /slight exaggeration.

So what's Ford going to do if his party wins the upcoming election? Ration Kraft Dinner?

 

 

 

My mother's favorite cousin, who was born in 1898 in England, but grew up in Canada, ended just about every sentence with "eh?". It was definitely a thing at one time. I can at least remember when Canadians actually talked like that, but it would seem most people in Canada or elsewhere now think it's a myth. It isn't.

I recently found my grandfather's death certificate, on which it says he was born in Canada. He wasn't, but it was the last place he lived before marrying my grandmother. If it were true, I would be 1/4 Canadian and probably compelled to follow ice hockey.

I know British-Canadians who say or write "aye", but never eh.

I think eh happens / happened in the Maritimes but it's not something I've encountered.

Cousin Edith grew up in NS, so perhaps.

Edith is a good name.
Yeah, I think it's something more likely to be heard down east if at all.
