My personal number one in the category...demanding the tallest stacks of kleenex boxes...is this, being sung by Malveena Reynolds...the Australian lady who penned it...also known as the "Kodak Song" because a version sung by a male baritone was used in TV spots for kodak when I was a little kid. Dianna Ross also did a good cover of it too.

Here For You
Ozzy Osbourne

I remember all the good times
Sometimes I'd wonder would it last
I used to dream about the future
But now the future is the past
I don't wanna live in yesterday
Cross my heart until I die
Don't wanna know just what tomorrow may bring
Because today has just begun
No matter whatever else I've done
I'm here for you
I'm here for you
So now I sit here and I wonder
Whatever happened to my friends
Too many bought a one way ticket
But I'll be with you till the end
I don't wanna live in yesterday
Cross my heart until I die
Don't wanna know just what tomorrow may bring
Because today has just begun
No matter whatever else I've done
I'm here for you
You're my religion, you're my reason to live
You are the Heaven in my Hell
We've been together for a long, long time
And I just can't live without you
No matter what you do
I'm here for you
I don't wanna live in yesterday
Cross my heart until I die
Don't wanna know just what tomorrow may bring
Because today has just begun
No matter whatever else I've done
I'm here for you
I'm here for you
I'm here for you
I'm here for you

This was the turning-point song for me and MR during a very rough patch.
It was the basis of an apology he made to me.
It was the first time I truly trusted someone instead of running away.

When I was at primary school we used to sing this song in assembly called Wind in the Willows. I think it's an old Irish folk song or something, it's sort of religious. It's not a particularly sad song or anything, but it just made me want to cry.

I used to pretend to sing it because if I actually sang I'd get too emotional and start crying. I don't know why it affected me like that.

Blackbird (acoustic)

My son and his best friend played it on acoustic guitar at their high school graduation talent show.
They were sat on stools in a glow of purple spotlights.

They were at that age of angst and depression.
There wasn't a dry eye in the house.

I have it on video and wish I could share.
Maybe I'll share just the audio one day but it's really emotional for me.

Six years later my son's friend was jumped and stabbed by three random thugs.
He was face-down and stabbed repeatedly in the back, puncturing his lungs.

My son intervened to save his life.
They went for my son's heart but got him in the left bicep instead.

They were taken to separate hospitals.
At my son's hospital we were told his friend might not make it.

It was a very bad night.

They're both in one of the cottage pictures I posted, golfing with canoe paddles.

I didn't even know about the talent show until about an hour before.

"Hey mum, can you iron a shirt for me? I'm playing guitar in a school concert."

??

"Yeah and maybe can you drop me off? I'm running late ...."

lmaooo kids -- like it was no big deal.

The song "Crying" does it for me too.
Anything Roy Orbison makes me cry but I love the KD Lang version too.

Oh this is brilliant

I might learn how to cry with this thread

This almost does it for me. It makes me think of my recent reunion with my dad and the 51 years we was both looking for each other and it's one of his favourites as well

Dream #9
John Lennon

I don't have a story to share for this one.
It just makes me cry.
There's something haunting about it.
It gives me profound feelings of nostalgia and saudade.

Plus, you know - John.

Love Lies Bleeding
Elton John

I think I've shared this one before but it's that time of year again. My sixteenth birthday -- the day after Twilightprincess was born -- I was home in my parents' back yard with nothing to do because I was such a misfit at school, I had no friends. I felt sorry for myself because sixteenth birthdays are supposed to be a big deal for girls.

A floral delivery arrived at the house. It was a big box with 16 red roses inside, and a little card saying:

"Happy Sweet 16 Issy. Love, X"

The X meant I had a secret admirer! I was out of my mind trying to figure out which boy at school was secretly in love with me. I was pretty sure it was a senior I had a crush on despite never speaking to him in my life.

I was swooning with the romance of it all, and feeling good about myself for the first time in years.

My dad stood by watching, with tears in his eyes.

Just a couple of hours after that, we got word that my grandfather shot himself in the head. He committed suicide because of depression, anxiety, and social phobia (undiagnosed ASD), which is exactly what I'd been feeling at the time. He was found lying on his kitchen floor, bleeding.

I watched my dad's tears of joy about my roses turn to tears of anguish.

Only later did I learn that my dad had sent me the roses, not a random boy. He purposely sent them from "X" so I'd think they were from a boy, and I'd feel popular.

The song Love Lies Bleeding reminds me of that day, which was the best and worst of my life. It even begins with an instrumental called Funeral for a Friend.

There were red roses at my Gramps' funeral when I still had Dad's 16 red roses in my bedroom.

Not to be graphic but there was also a lot of blood when my grandpa died, and we later went to the house to replace the floor tiles because they'd been stained. Everything red reminds me of turning 16.

I still can't look at red roses or listen to this song without crying, especially on my birthday.

Lyrics:

The roses in the window box have tilted to one side
Everything about this house was born to grow and die
It doesn't seem a year ago to this very day
You said I'm sorry honey, if I don't change the pace
I can't face another day

More than one dj did mash-ups of the late Amy Winehouse with this Sixties hit by Motown's Four Tops. The styles dovetail.
Resulting in a fun novelty record. Until the Rehab singer finnally succumbed to her inner demons. Now the male voices of the Tops ...representing a man addressing his defiant lover ...Amy...come off as rather poignant and even prophetic.

Around 1970 Gil Scott Heron did "rap" almost a decade before rap became a thing. The title is misleadingly humorous. The song is wrenching.

I'm a sucker for vocals like these.

Things are here, and you're over there
And in between: land, sea, everything
I hope you're warm, and I hope you think of me
In Petersburg, the way things used to be

Yesterday, a telegram said that you had died
But I knew, but I know that it was a lie
I tried to laugh but went back to my room and cried
I mean our room, I went back to our room and cried

Retreat, and come back home

I don't normally associate gang shouts with this sort of music but they work.
