Congratulations on winning those prizes, Irulan. It is good that the tv can replace one that is failing. I hope you get to enjoy it with your family.
As for your question on winning, I have won a few big prizes. Years ago, I missed winning a progressive slot jackpot by one tick of a spinning wheel. It would have been worth $2.1 million US dollars. While I did not win that, I still took home a $2000 prize from the wheel. Half was spent on fun that night and the other half invested the next day. The invested part is now worth $6,000 to $7,000 if I cashed it out now.
During my undergrad years, I almost won a radio station grand prize of a restored 1968 Ford Mustang coupe. There were 105 keys given out at different drawings and I won one of them. My key was number 104, so not a good chance. During the event, people came up and drew out keys for the car from a blind bag. It got to key 103 before it was won. If he had not picked the right key, I would have had a 50% chance on my turn. That one really hurt to lose, but they gave me twenty five music CDs from their inventory. Some of them are rare promotion CDs for some big named bands just coming out, so they are worth a few thousand now.
A few months later I won $1000 in cash off of the radio station as I called in and guessed the right number on their contest. The dj could not believe that I had said the right number until they replayed my answer on the air. He flat out hated me after that. Later on, he started doing a “name that tune” by playing songs in reverse. Every time he said one was going to be impossible to get, I had it solved within 15 seconds (time limit). I was so good at that one that the station gave me a deal on their promos “not to play”. I followed their rules, so that was their way of buying me out. I really miss that station, as it changed format a few years later.
