How come some people achieve success in their 20s/30s?
Going back to the original question: having roll models helps. When I was growing up, the most successful person I knew had made it to foreman, which wasn't something I wanted to emulate, even if it had occured to me to try. I read of one guy whose ambition was to be president of a major division by age 30, but I'm not at all sure what a president in industry does.
As for these self-made millionaires: "I had this idea I thought might work, so I put in a 100k$ of my own money, and raised another 500k$ from friends and family..." At age 20, I doubt if my entire circle of friends and relatives could have scraped together 100k$ between them, even if they'd been inclined to back me with it, which I doubt, as no one offered as much as a penny to help me get through college!
