I love David Bowie! You can hear their influence in a lot of his 'Hunky Dory'-era songs. He covered 'I'm Waiting For The Man' and 'White Light/White Heat'.

If I recall the Lou Reed biography correctly they did actually collaborate, Reed went over to the UK to record an album Bowie was to produce or something. There are some questions as to whether they were lovers briefly. I think the two big egos thing made it an short alliance.
