It's a little rougher around the edges than NWN1 (more bugs, worse performance), but IMO its official campaign is a million times better than NWN1s. And the expansion (Mask of the Betrayer) improves on that even further, to become one of the best RPGs in recent years. If you do buy it, I'd highly recommend getting the expansion at the same time, because it adds some things to the original game (new races, classes etc.).

Unfortunately yes, depending on your definition of "a lot". Performance is probably the game's biggest problem. You need a good system to run it with details turned up. And yet it doesn't look any better than other games that run more smoothly (although it still looks much better than NWN1).
Incidentally, if you choose a Gigabyte GeForce 8800GT video card, it ships with NWN2.
