Tori Amos seems to delight in having song lyrics that make the listener scratch their head (exactly what does "Never was a cornflake girl/Thought it was a good solution, hanging with the raisin girls" actually mean?).

I believe it means hanging with the conservative type of woman. This is a song about T in her twenties. She was just exploring at the time, how woman beat each other up for power etc.

Silverchair lyrics are by far the worst I've heard in terms of not making sense. Yet they're so popular.

"Pure Massacre" seems to be about war:

Silverchair wrote:
People fighting for no reason at all
Age is no difference, or if you're large or small

Family's being torn apart
Does it have to be this way?
Some people just have no heart
It's happening every day

...

Machine guns pumping, hearts thumping
Death is all around
People crying for freedom
Noone hears a sound

'Faultline' appears to be about someone who died in a building collapse, 'Israel's Son' is about wanting someone dead, Shade appears to be about a victim of abuse...

But for the most part you're not far off. They do seem a bit vague.

Nirvana were well known for vague lyrics - hence why Weird Al wrote "Sounds Like Nirvana".

I can’t believe nobody’s posted “stop making sense’ by talking heads

Most songs have a message or point, I can't seem to get the song "Peaches" by the 'Presidents of the United States of America"

The video for the song even makes less sense, it's the band playing in a forest with a crate of peaches in the center and ninjas are sneaking around them, at the end they are all fighting.

Sounds like a novelty song. There are loads of these, and not one of 'em tells you anything you need to know. And that is precisely their appeal.

fish heads, fish heads
roly-poly fish heads ...

Oh God

I'm surprised that no one mentioned the Beatles...

Admittedly several of their songs make very little sense ("I am the Walrus", "Come Together", "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds") but these songs were stream-of-consciousness and I have no problem with those (that they were high when they wrote them and probably when they recorded it also helps with their case).

If a man could be in two places at one time
I'd be with you tomorrow and today

From the song "If". These lines have always irritated me.

Insert any Soul Coughing lyric here, even though I love them.
