the sparks are still making albums? eek. *do do do do do's the opening bit of 'hospitality on parade'*

anywho, what i came in here to say:

if you’re wondering why
all the love that you long for eludes you
and people are rude and cruel to you
i’ll tell you why
i’ll tell you why
you just haven’t earned it yet, baby
you just haven’t earned it, son
you just haven’t earned it yet, baby
you must suffer and cry for a longer time.

if more people would listen to the smiths there would be less unnecessary questions.

I liked the Smiths and Morrissey... many centuries ago when I was a teenager :).

If you like the Smiths or Morrissey you might like Porcupine Tree.

I'm not up much on popular music but I like that group...

That is one of their best and most underrated songs! But strangely enough the last verse always works uplifting to me, maybe because of the uplifting tempo and the tone in Mozzer's voice, but it sort of makes me think "and now I am going to show the world that I did earn it!"

But yes, great song, very underrated. I find it a pity that whenever the Smiths are introduced to new listeners, one will always play "This charming man", "There is a light...", "Panic", "Bigmouth strikes again" or "How soon is now" ; although all great songs, they got so many more hidden gems that only true fans know while the songs are rarely played. Well, hang the DJ I guess

I like a couple of their songs, I guess. My favorite is "I Started Something I Couldn't Finish."

Hair brushed and parted, typical me, typical me, typical me...

"Ask" is a good one as well.

I didn't really like Morrissey until one his last albums.
Now I would really like a commitment.

Indeed. For instance, their B-sides - the sort of thing most bands would kill to have as A-sides.

During his tours Mozzer often plays B sides from his solo records, and also Smiths songs that were never released as CD singles. So he definitely dares to play a few lesser known tracks, even on festivals where the crowd may only know his most famous songs. It takes guts to do that and to replace a few classics in your setlist by lesser known songs, but Morrissey has the guts for that which I highly respect.

The Smiths/Morrissey is one of those bands/artists that I've always meant to explore, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I am a huge Modest Mouse fan, though, and I enjoyed Johnny Marr's guitar playing on the last MM album.
