I was hoping this thread would come back to life. It's pretty sad about the passing of the Queen. I like how the British call a tv set the telly.

This song is the perfect example of having a stiff upper lip.

Ive met some friendly and interesting people from Cornwall. One was a lady who claimed to have psychic powers and contacted me on Facebook out of the blue to warn me that my grandfather was going to pass away soon (he was in a nursing home at the time).

I think meeting her piqued my interest in things like reading tarot cards.

King Charles. That will take some getting used to. He has to mourn his mother and take on the throne at the same time. With role models like that, no wonder the British are so able to keep calm and carry on.

I used to be a big fan of British Broadcasting Commission radio. They have great foreign service programs.

It's just my luck that the Queen had to pass away right before my dad's birthday. I'm going to be spending the entire day trying to fake a stuff upper-lip. My nosy mum will be asking, "Were you crying when you went for your nap? Yes you were It's about the Queen, isn't it?" holding up my hanky. I'll tell her that I have a cold but she won't fall for it.

I saw these interesting playing cards online that depict the many kings and queens of England throughout history.

I definitely want to add these to my card collection someday. :king: :queen:

I wonder which direction I will go in, now that the Queen has died. Will it be a repeat of 2009 when I got into British 60s Mod, or will it be a repeat of 2016 when I realized that I prefer Germany over Britain and I couldn't hide my gender identity and expression anymore. My avatar says 2016, but I feel little shots of 2009 in my veins every now and again. This should be interesting.

I wonder if Liz Truss will be another Margaret Thatcher?

Also as an American living in a country that has never elected a single female president I find it fascinating that the UK has had many powerful female rulers from Independent Queens like Victoria and Elizabeth to Prime Ministers like Margaret Thatcher.
