That mashed swede in the UK is what we normally call mashed turnip in Canada.

Although what we call turnips in Canada might really be rutabagas, and not white turnips. It's confusing. :?

According to Wiki, we (Canadians) use turnip to refer to rutabagas/yellow turnips/swedes. Yellow turnips are a cross between cabbage and the white turnip.

It'd be easier if we just called them yellow turnips and white turnips. :nerdy:

Whatever did the swedes do to deserve being Mashed..? are we at war with Sweden ?
Took me year to figure out what a turnip actually looked like ..then found out they are a good winter veggie ..
Then discovered raw chilled turnip that are peeled and sectioned , taste a bit like Hiccama . Good with dipping sauce
( Ranch) gotta cut off ends first .

At least one teacher has put up signs in their classroom banning all the current brainrot words kids won't stop using, such as "gyatt" and "skibidi".

I can't picture my own teachers banning words like "rad" and "awesome" or even "gnarly". Back then, it was just slang. Today it's brainrot. Go figure.

^I agree. there's nothing wrong with kids using slang words. It's actually creative and a way in which language naturally evolves. (I had never heard of gyatt and skibidi, but I am obviously old. :))

I was reading The Daily Tism, a satire news website that makes fun of people's misconceptions and stereotypes of ND people. In one article a mother of an autistic woman says she was spoiled and impossible to please as a kid, "despite having been repeatedly given plates of mashed swede she didn't ask for". And I was like, "Mashed swede, what is that? I thought swede was just a name for a Swedish person. Then I thought it must be some kind of vegetable, since in the UK they use different names for some vegetables than we do in Canada and the US. And I wouldn't be pleased either if my own mom repeatedly gave me plates of it, because I have one word for all different kinds of turnip-like vegetables. "Barf". :eew:

I learned what happens if you microwave a battery

I was hoping for an explosion, but it was still cool. That microwave will never be used again.

TIL
That, after over a year of using my shower (moved here 13 months ago) I looked up and saw that there were actually two shower heads. I'd been using the 'portable one' on the end of a hose that hangs in a holder and JUST THREE INCHES AWAY there is the 'regular' one, larger, that comes directly out of the wall.
And I never saw this?
I also learned that it feels wonderful to laugh at oneself instead of feeling fearful at the seeming ineptitude of one's brain. :P

This was yesterday, but I learned that there are actual people who are fruitarians. Which means they only eat fruit, and maybe some nuts and seeds. The reason some people eat this way is because apparently they don't believe in killing anything for food, not even plants, and you can harvest fruit without having to destroy the entire plant or tree. Or maybe it's just because trees and plants can grow fruit many times so it's more resourceful.
Some fruitarians don't eat nuts or seeds either, since they're "future plants".

Not surprisingly, fruitarianism is even more restrictive than veganism, it can lead to serious nutritional deficiencies, and is not recommended for children, teens, or pregnant and nursing mothers.

I wonder if there are actual people who think killing bacteria is wrong, even the kinds that cause deadly diseases. Probably, but hopefully that won't become a new trend. Hopefully.

So , went to the dealer and got a all okay , except that suddenly the car has started using a quart of oil inbetween its last oil change...And told me the car was okay, just add oil. Normally, i trust them .but the car should not all the sudden use oil ? . Very odd...and the previous guy ,did the oil change there, wrote a reminder sticker on my windsheild for oil change . Usually every 3000 miles ,period ! ..So the car has 209,000 miles, but this sticker says next change at
220,000 miles on it ..?? . Nope not right . So today went to a small garage, reccomended by a friend . And the underneath oil pan is covered in oil , and alittle on the oil pump . Very odd.. Something feels off. So apparently the dealer whom we saw yesterday, Was also suppose give it a total check over. Guess they never looked under it for a oil leak?? Now its getting another complete diagnostic. So beware of car dealerships service departments .And check your own milesge between oil changes ,if you care for your car ? btw the service guy at the dealer kept trying very hard to get me to buy a new car...? very suspicious .
