Being weird.

Around 1979 I had an 'incident' and was taken to for some tests. They put electrodes on my head and maybe something else. I was declared normal. The funny thing was, I was getting bored so I started tapping my foot against the wall, the doctor came out and said hey, stop that. LOL right then and there, that is a tip off of Autism, I was stimming.

In the 80's I lived in a small town in Massachusetts, Winchester. I was diagnosed with a learning disability of learning comprehension, and reading comprehension. I went to a speech pathologist as a child, I was an extremely shy child...in public that is, so in school I wouldnt really talk. I would get the school work done, which was really easy for me. I remember my behaviors were always at home and towards my immediate family member, mainly my parents. My parents never thought twice, they just thought I was a brat. Fast forward 38 years, after working at a Private school for autistic kids and young adults I could see myself in each student, I also felt a since of belonging for the first time in 38 years. I am an empath with both humans and animals so it's very overwhelming and overstimulating every time I leave the house.
I am also a starseed.

I can help out in any way you need, I want to help the autism community in any way I am able to.

:D

Bipolar or the equivalent, and was given Prozac. Quite certain I don't have it. Apparently misdiagnosing autism as depression is a thing. Doesn't mean you can't be both lol.

Once in English class (now called Language Arts) every kid in class used my name in the sample sentence for the vocabulary word “unkempt”

The oldest I was in the 1980's was only 2 so nothing. I looked through some papers my parents had from therapists and social workers because I technically/legally was a foster child until I was 4. Most of them said things like "pervasive development disorder".

My biological mother was probably what today we'd call high needs autism. She could speak but would wonder off and couldn't properly care for herself, let alone a child. But in the 80's and 90's the term was "mental retardation" and that's what all the paper's say. "MagicMeerkat's biological mother lives in a group home in X Town". Everyone was convinced I'd grow up to be "mentally ret*d" as well and as a result I was sheltered and not allowed to do anything that wasn't specifically for "special needs kids". I had to fight for the right to "grow up" at the age of 26.
