Thanks.

I only know one song by Pain, and I used to watch it for the film-clip alone, basically. I should really check out more, but I really like this one:

Oh man, I love that video :D ! !! ! I hear that Pain might be putting out a new album this year, my fingers are crossed to hell and back!!

That has gotta be one of KMFDM's best tracks, no question. I've been listening to lots of Die Krupps, since hearing that song you posted. They are quickly becoming a new favourite of mine. Their cover of Metallica's One cracks me up, but I really dig this track:

Here's a couple more tracks for you to grok:

Speaking of Die Krupps doing Metallica covers, here's one that I think is actually better than the original song it's based on. :P Granted, "Enter Sandman" is probably one of my least favorite Metallica songs, but that's not to say it's a bad song. It's still a classic tune that I would take over most popular music any day.

And since this thread is in dire need of more Skuppy, here's Worlock. I would've linked the music video, but it's really really gory, and I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to put it here. :P Look it up if you want, but don't say I didn't warn you. Awesome song anyhow. I still have no idea what the lyrics actually mean.

Here is a really avant-garde piece by Skuppy. It's worth listening to on good bassy headphones. 8) Or crank it on some big speakers and scare the crap out of your neighbors! (I don't actually recommend the latter :P)

warning: some bad language, but what do you expect from industrial?

Another awesome track from VIVIsectVI. I love that album. :D

Love that cover of Enter Sandman, better than the original! I am not a big Metallica fan, but they're okay. I think that the more Avante-Garde side of Skuppy is their best stuff, can't be beat!! ! Right now, I am leaning toward Industrial Rock/Metal, more than EBM. I wanna find more stuff like these songs:

About that Die Krupps Metallica cover...

I could only listen to about the first 30 seconds of it - until the vocals kicked in and went; 'nah, I can't do this'....Metallica IS Metallica.

I am more of a 'Heavy Metal' Industrial person and not really into Techno unless it's heavy Aggrotech...again, it's a 'Metal thing'.

The basslines (either guitar or electronica) have to be very loud and brain-numbing, so I never got into bands like Die Krupps, Skinny Puppy, Front 242 and the rest of that genre.

I went the other way, with Combichrist, Rammstein and stuff that will shatter windows on full volume.

I think that's where I am different to the rest of you.

When I was just getting into industrial music, the only stuff I listened to was the more "metallic" guitar-driven stuff, like Rammstein, Ministry, KMFDM, and NIN's more rock/metal-influenced output. One day out of curiosity, I decided to listen to NIN's debut album "Pretty Hate Machine", and that's when I really started to develop an appreciation for the more electronic side of industrial, as well as electronic music as a whole. I even started to rediscover some of the 80s new wave and synthpop tunes I listened to as a kid when I was going through my "retro 80s" phase.

My point is, even though I listen more to the more-electronic side of industrial nowadays, I can relate to your situation. I still listen to bands like Rammstein and KMFDM, and I enjoy them a lot, but it's worth broadening one's horizons a bit and trying new things out, even if they don't quite stick at first. Goodness, at one time I actually claimed that I didn't like Nine Inch Nails, because I was going through a phase where I didn't like anything that wasn't metal or hard rock, most of the songs that people showed me by them were their less-heavy, more-accessible cuts, and the one NIN track I looked up on my own accord, a remix of Megadeth's "Symphony of Destruction", didn't impress me much. It wasn't until I heard the song "Wish" that I started taking a serious interest in them. Now, I consider them to be one of my all-time favorite artists.

Thanks for your kind advice, but I have already been there and back again...three times so far. lol

When I first got into Industrial music, I just went purely 'Metal Industrial' - I was a 'Metalhead' before I was a 'Rivethead' and I figured that one just naturally followed the other.

I am still partial to the raw sounds of Ministry, Static-X, Fear Factory, Tool etc and the association that Fear Factory had with Gary Numan on the reproduction of 'Cars' took me all the way back to my 'Tubeway Army' days and my own 'Retro '80's' phase...but that only took me as far as Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk and The Cure (I don't remember the '80's much). lolz

I went through a brief 'Darkwave' phase again and re-visited Clan of Xymox, The Cruxshadows and even Techno Darkwave like Angelspit:

Anyway, I was also listening to a lot of German stuff too - Rammstein, KMFDM, Oomph, Agonoize etc, but I was really missing my Metal and the raw Industrial sound.

I wanted a genre that combined both the Metal Industrial sound with Darkwave EBM and kick-ass drop bass and found Aggrotech.

I just love the 'electronic side' of Industrial, but it's also gotta have certain elements of Trance or I start yawning.

By the way, I made my own Industrial compilation CD last month and you know the first song on it?

Closer by Nine Inch Nails.

Way to set the scene for the rest of that CD eh? ;)

Just to show how flexible I can be in the 'Industrial Electronica' dept...

One day, my daughter was listening to songs on her iPod through speakers (a few years ago)...

Now, I generally don't like all the stuff she listens to...it's all rap and pop and general stuff teens listen to...

Anyway, in the middle of that tirade, I heard one specific song that made me go; 'ZOMG that's amazing and totally cool'...

I made a mental note of it and I played it a lot for a long time after that. If you listen, you can see what I mean:

I love the guitar-driven stuff with a Metal edge - but also the type of Industrial that rides entirely on electronics. When I was younger, I was obsessed with Linkin Park. Though they are not Industrial, it was them that turned me on to electronics and FX in music.

From there, I got into Orgy and Static-X, just starting to scratch the surface. It was when Julien-K was born, that I started digging deeper into the genre. I moved on to Front 242, Combichrist, NIN... By then, the virus had me, there would be no turning back. Oh, I've also since got into loads of dance music and even some more obscure and ambient stuff. I love The Bloody Beetroots, Warp 1.9 is my favourite version of that song!
