I'm def not possessive of my special interests. Most of my special interests have been common interests others have like playing with Lego's as a kid, watching TV, listening to music, playing video-games, random web browsing, & spending time on web forums. I'm very used to having few friends & others not really listening or caring when I do try talking about various things. I'd much rather spend time indulging in my interests than trying to talk about them. I also realize there's much more hardcore fans of various aspects of those interests than me, for example people who only listen to one genre of music or Star Trek fans who believe than true Trekkies can not like Star Wars or retro video-game players who refuse to play newer games made for non-cartridge systems. Whereas my focus is more on enjoying the interests as a whole rather than one small aspect. They're still special interests because I spend quite a lot of time involved with my interests & my overall range of interests is much more limited than the average person. Like I spend quite a lot of time listening to music & know lots of various music but I respect that metalheads would know more about metal than me & hardcore punk fans would know more about punk than me.

The only special interests I have that has to involve someone else is my girlfriend but I'm not exactly possessive of her. I spend lots of time with her when she's home & we're both awake but she's OK with that & when she goes visits family or something I'll do my own thing at home like spend more time on my desktop.
