I wonder if not enough people have advice to offer, we're all here for help so not enough people feel capable of helping?

Edit: I'm glad it made sense with that missing verb. :nerdy:

That's true. It also seems like a lot of people are increasingly burnt out. Once again, I don't blame people for choosing to post in those specific boards, since I've found myself mainly posting in Off Topic now. I'm burnt out too and don't have the energy to give support and discuss things like I did when I first joined, and am now venting more than I respond to other people venting.

I wouldn't mind finding those who prefer to think for themselves and are allergic to groupthink :3

You're not wrong. It's probably easy for people to often ignore what they're really saying/thinking because they're too busy trying to fit into something, and trying to present a specific image of themselves to do so. Autistics aren't exempt from that and I certainly still have issues with that sometimes.

I honestly don't know what else to offer, maybe that in general I don't post as much as I used to, mostly coming to this site in regards to some of the geek sections of the forums, and the occasional topic in the politics side. The politics side can tend to make me get involved in a topic, and also make me incredibly frustrated in feeling like I am slamming my head against a wall. But if bad ideas are not challenged, there isn't going to be any change.

I really otherwise don't have a lot of experience on the LGBT side, and it took a lot of guts to even look in it.

Everyone's welcome here on WP regardless of how they identify. I don't know why so few post on this forum. It's been mentioned that some folk feel unwelcome on the forums. I'm gay too, so please, remember to report public posts or PMs that are in any way abusive towards trans, non binary members etc so we can deal with them.

We'd like everyone to have a pleasant experience here. We cannot increase the traffic on this subsection however, as that depends entirely on who posts and where. I've often thought this section could be much more active than it is.

@Bradleigh: please continue to challenge bad ideas when you see them. In general I feel things seem quieter on PPR than a few months ago but there's still the odd eruption.

Hmm, maybe because WP is mainly right leaning incel forum, sprinkled with privileged white old dudes and few Karens? Most likely nothing can be done about it though, autism and hard conservatist stuff seems to be inseparable...

I don't think it's mainly right leaning. We have numerous regular posters who don't fall into that category. I wouldn't day that conservatism and autism are inseparable - is there data to back that up? In fact I have often thought we who are on the spectrum are more likely to resist categorization and the little boxes that authority want to put us in.

Of course there are a number of right leaning, reactionary type members but I wouldn't say they're in the majority.

I'd say in general the membership is representative of a broad spectrum of thoughts, ideas and outlooks. Personally I think this subforum should form part of the Adult forum, so that non-conformist folk would feel more comfortable here. Naturally people who are both Aspie/autistic and gay will seek out gay discussion sites as well as dating or porn sites rather than post here, even if they are WP members who post here too. Same goes for those who are trans, non-binary etc.

I would post here more often, but a bit after I joined I kind of gave up on it. Any topic regarding trans people/gender issues, even in the LGBT forum, just got flooded with cis people complaining about how confusing trans people are, and repetitively spouting the same old "there's only two genders" and "you can't change your gender" rhetoric. The only LGBT things I really think to post here relate to that stuff, and there's not really enough trans people that respond here for me to post that stuff anyways since it won't get many useful responses, so I just talk about LGBT issues on other sites.

A good many years ago, my one driving instructor was transgender, so I became open minded about all such things at an early age. I might not understand what it's like to be one, but would never complain that its confusing. We ought to only comment about things that we have some understanding of.

Well, that would greatly decrease the amount of posts in L&D, N&CE, and PP&R.

I just read the entirety of this thread and it was rather refreshing.

So many different thoughts of mind, convictions, stigmas, ignorance, intelligence, and general openmindedness clashing into one another.

An enjoyable read, through and through. It helped to distract me from my personal misery for a little.

Thank you all.

Adding to the discourse about the reasons people stray away or don't like WP; I'll agree that this site has a really bad reputation, historically speaking in internet terms, that can be discovered with a simple google search of news articles/testimonials, including from people who've been unjustifiably permabanned for being trans and/or nonbinary when WP is literally their only lifeline towards straying away from feeling isolated, suicidal and alone in their diagnosis.

That's indisputable, so I understand why some people don't like this forum merely from the toxic rhetoric displayed by some people on here, not to mention some moderators who turn a clear blind eye to it, or encourage it by their silence, favoritism, and banning people they don't agree by their actions/inactions.

It's sad, yet intriguing (as is the general census of humans irl; sh*ts complex), because I love this website, it's been a lifesaver for me, since my diagnosis, and continues to be my "go-to" for feeling like I'm at "home".

Family's don't always get along, even when they don't acknowledge that they are indeed "family" for reasons x, y and z.

I love a hearty debates, and the "old-school" forum layout of WP as it's nostalgic, intimate, and has a sense of "family" or "community", that you don't get from spaces like reddit and other newer online apps/platforms like discord or FB groups.

With all of that said, I feel that the new gender option of "nonbinary" being included as an option to display on one's profile shows progressive steps of inclusivity, or at least an attempt to be or appear more accepting of people from different backgrounds and beliefs by those that run this website.

So kudos and cheers to that.

Guess I'm the only one who is complaining how confusing binary people are then? Being surrounded with them didn't help, they make no sense to this day... :3

I definitely don't really have an issue with the mods + admins, I know they're doing their best and I especially appreciate the addition of a nonbinary option and the ability to change our gender markers. I guess my issue is more with some users here, and how the amount of this behaviour seems to prevent people from feeling comfortable calling it out. I don't think it's as bad as last year, which is good, but it does fluctuate and when there's those times it gets "worse" it makes me remember why I don't always feel fully comfortable here.

The OP has not logged in to WP in 20 days (since 2012-08-28).  While he may still be "lurking", I suspect he has abandoned this thread altogether.

I think the thread has evolved a bit beyond the original post at this point. Of course the mods could move some of the posts to another thread, but I don't really get the point of cluttering the forum more and shutting down discussion here just because the OP isn't that active and isn't posting in the thread right now.

^Yes, I don't think that's necessary. It's good to have positive feedback about the admin decision to add non binary to the gender options, and brings WP a bit more in tune with its membership.

Let any one of us know either per PM or report when you feel someone's crossed a line/ broken a WP rule. Remember, PM's can also be reported if they make anyone feel uncomfortable.
