Have you tried adult autism support groups (peer-led ones, not just the ones led by shrinks) and social groups in your local area?

Groups vary in how well they behave toward newcomers. Alas, groups tend to be cliquish unless they make a specific effort not to be cliquish.

Not at all, because I don't have any such groups where I live. And yet, my town is one of the reference points for autism research in France. Doesn’t make any sense.
