Yeah, I think it's something more likely to be heard down east if at all.

Her mother, my grandfather's sister, was also named Edith.

The Pope says they're fish so you can eat 'em on Fridays. :nerdy:

I read today that younger people aren't as proud or happy to be Canadian as older people. Yeah I know, hard to believe.

Just send the young'uns to Afaghanistan for a couple of weeks. If they make it back to Canada, they'll love it here.

It's almost like they don't view something arbitrary like place of birth as an accomplishment. How unreasonable of them.

I heard that in medieval times Catholic people ate the meat of European beavers because on Fridays they're not supposed to eat any meat except fish. So they looked at the beaver and were like, "It has a tail that is long, flat and scaly like a fish, and it spends most of time in the water, like a fish. Therefore, the beaver must be a fish!"

But in Canada beavers are not considered a food animal. By most people, anyway, you never know. Horses, on the other hand, yes, I was quite surprised to learn that in some parts of Canada, especially Quebec, horses can be food animals.

While the Anglosphere buys into the horse meat taboo, not all of Europe does.

Also, Francois de Laval, the first Bishop of Quebec wrote to theologians about whether or not Canadian beavers were considered allowable during Lent. This suggests two things: that beaver was a common enough food in Canada for it to be a worthwhile question as well as that the church hadn't already decided (European) beaver was acceptable.

That said, apparently some churchmen and monks in the Netherlands and Northern Germany ate beaver. That said, beavers were nearly wiped out in Europe so it might not have been readily available anymore by the time Laval wrote his letter.

Capybaras were also given a special dispensation by the Catholic church that allows them to be eaten during Lent.

Alligator, muskrat and armadillo are also considered acceptable Lenten foods.

I didn't draw policemen as a child. I drew Mounties instead.
