People with the biggest ambitions usually have the smallest minds.

Sometimes a good lie can be easier to believe than the truth.

When an authority tries to restrict or limit your rights or freedoms claiming it's to protect you, they are very likely intentionally tying to harm you.

I'm learning to accept that sometimes it is actually my fault

Science and Scientism really are two different things

Hurt people hurt people

There is a lot more to the Serenity Prayer than first meets the eye: acceptance, change and wisdom continue to evolve and change and have many nuances.

I'm not sure unhurt people exist. At least within in the 'old enough to speak' demographic.

I'm sure it was, on a superficial level. That doesn't mean that he never had traumatic experiences (whether or not he recognized them as such).

Sometimes people get brainwashed into believing they are being harmed by certain people or groups that are not harming them.

I wouldn't assume a direct connection between his harming people and any potential trauma he might have experienced, but that's not the same as believing he was entirely without trauma.

If you're not sure what the right thing to do is, it's usually the harder thing.

People act on emotions, and then retroactively justify their actions intellectually.

^Some people will violently reject the notion this applies to them.

More often than not, the precipitating emotion will be fear.

Some Useful Heuristics:

• A claim cannot support itself.
• A wise man proportions his belief to the evidence.
• Accusation, belief, correlation, delusion, emotion, intuition, opinion, rumor, and suspicion are not evidence.
• Any claim stated without valid empirical evidence can be readily dismissed without valid empirical evidence.
• Claims require valid evidence; extraordinary claims require valid extraordinary evidence.
• If the alleged existence of a thing is indistinguishable from its non-existence, then it can be safely said that the thing does not exist.
• Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by incompetence or stupidity.
• The burden of proof lies upon a person making claims, rather than shifting the burden of disproof to others.
