Some random football thoughts:

Strike Oklahoma, West Virginia, Oregon, Texas and maybe a few others from the undefeated list.

South Florida has an incredible defense - shut down Slaton and knocked White out of the game. SFU may be the Big East's BCS representative this year.

My Horns played a pretty good game on defense but the offense and special teams were absolutely awful. Four interceptions and KSU returned both a kickoff and punt for touchdowns. From what I saw today, I think Texas will be lucky to finish the season 7-5. John Chiles is our quarterback of the future. Reminds me of Vince Young early in his career.

At least the evil sooners also lost- in spectacular fashion blowing a 24-7 second-half lead.

What's up with LSU's uniforms? I like the old ones better with the purple and yellow.

Those were LSU's throwback uniforms today, so actually, those were the old uniforms.

I didn't get to see Cal/Oregon's crazy ending because they didn't televise it in my area. :x

At the end of the day we lost 8 undefeated teams. 8O Much higher than I expected.

On the reality show of college football's undefeated we now have to say goodbye to the likes of Clemson, Florida, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rutgers, Texas, and West Virginia. Bad play calling (West Virginia), lack of passion (everyone except Michigan St., Oregon, and maybe West Virginia who lost honorably to fantastic teams), poor special teams and O-line play (Texas), looking ahead to a tough matchup next week (Oklahoma, Florida, and Texas especially), and other factors helped bring these former unbeatens down.

Next week there is only one match up of undefeateds, Purdue vs. Ohio State, so there could still be as many as 14 undefeateds remaining after next week.

After 5 weeks 15 teams remain undefeated.

The 15 undefeated teams.

Arizona State Sun Devils (5-0)
Boston College Eagles (5-0)
California Golden Bears (5-0)
Cincinnati Bearcats (5-0)
Connecticut Huskies (5-0)
Hawaii Warriors (5-0)
Kansas Jayhawks (4-0)
Kentucky Wildcats (5-0)
Missouri Tigers (4-0)
Louisiana State Tigers (5-0)
Ohio State Buckeyes (5-0)
Purdue Boilermakers (5-0)
Southern California Trojans (4-0)
South Florida Bulls (4-0)
Wisconsin Badgers (5-0)

One of my favorite college football blogs, EDSBS, has some amusing, um, insight on the previously unbeatens that lost yesterday:

"Three unbeaten top ten teams fall in a single Thermidorean day. We saw one of them get decapitated live, and it sucked with the sucking of a thousand burning suns of suck." 8O

The Marshall Memphis game last night was the first time I think I've ever seen Lou Holtz and Mark May actually announce a game.

The now 4-0 cowboys have spawned a new type of sexual orientation around the state of Texas. The romosexual, I've seen several guys around the campus wearing "I'm a Romosexual" t-shirts. Their game against New England in a couple weeks is going to be huge, especially if they're both undefeated.

I am so mad at Jamaal Charles I almost couldn't bring myself to come back here.

What a crazy day in college football for the second week in a row.

I didn't get to see the dramatic end of Stanford/USC because they didn't televise it here, and I love watching USC lose. :x

At the end of the day we lost 4 more undefeated teams, some of them in spectacular fashion.

And then there were 11. Three more top 10 teams went down, and Purdue. On Thursday Kentucky proved they still can't beat Steve Spurrier. Purdue proved that they couldn't even make it interesting in a real game. USC proved that they do not finish games like a champion, in shocking fashion against a team they were favored to beat by 41. Wisconsin proved that Vegas isn't always wrong when they lost to favored Illinois.

There are no matchups of undefeated next week to look forward to.

Props to ASU, Cincinnati, Kansas, LSU, and South Florida for finishing their dogfights against teams better than Stanford.
Colt Brennan was hurt last night, if he stays that way can our lone BCS buster remain on this list much longer? Missouri completely smacked Nebraska yesterday and look quite impressive. Can they keep it going against OU next week?

After 6 weeks 11 teams remain undefeated.

The 11.

Arizona State Sun Devils (6-0)
Boston College Eagles (6-0)
California Golden Bears (5-0)
Cincinnati Bearcats (6-0)
Connecticut Huskies (5-0)
Hawaii Warriors (6-0)
Kansas Jayhawks (5-0)
Missouri Tigers (5-0)
Louisiana State Tigers (6-0)
Ohio State Buckeyes (6-0)
South Florida Bulls (5-0)

Who will be the next to go?

It wasn't just JC's turnovers that lost the game. Poor linebacker and secondary play (esp. Bobino) hurt badly as well. But overall, Texas did a lot better than I expected. Despite losing, this is the best game they have played all year. The o-line did pretty well, unlike their terrible performance last week against K-state. And the OC Greg Davis called a good game. In the past he has been bad about getting conservative and predictable in big games. This time he kept the playbook open and did a lot of things ou obviously wasn't expecting, like the bootleg pass to Ogbonnaya. ou was the better team this year. It happens. Texas has a pretty easy schedule the rest of the year and should easily get into a non-BCS bowl.

It's a shame Nebraska lost again. They're coming to Austin on the 27th and that was supposed to our best home game this year. Now it looks like it may be a yawner.

It wasn't just JC's turnovers that lost the game. However if he did not make those turnovers UT probably would have won despite their problems. I read an article in the local paper that Charles had a session with one of the NFL's great running backs (I think it was Dickerson, might have been Earl Campbell) who gave him advice on how to cut down on fumbling a few days before the game, kind of ironic.

I wonder if the Cowboys are facing a trap game on Monday? I want them 5-0 going in to the New England game.

College level is a lot easier to follow around here since we have the Buckeyes to watch. Other than that - the Browns, I really don't know what to say on that one; I've been watching the games lately but it almost seems like a waste half the time (and then real upsetting when they've gotta kick a field goal twice). BTW, anyone know how they did today against New England?

Who just saw the end of the Cowboys game. 8O

They're 5-0, but I never thought it would be like that. Not 5 picks and a fumble by Romo including a pick late in the 4th. Not missing the game tying 2 point conversion with 20 seconds left and then making the onside kick. Not having TO's catch at the 25 and spiking it dramatically with 1 second left only to have it ruled incomplete upon review. Not having the rookie kicker kick the game winner from 53 twice because the Bills took a timeout the first time! I expected a trap or a blowout, I hope that doesn't take too much gas out of their tanks for the game against New England who already has a one day jump on them.

The Cowboys are the only unbeaten left in the NFC, after some luck. If they beat the Patriots next week I will be convinced that they are the best team in the NFL.

NFC so you have more in AFC that can easily dominated the Cowboys ex. the Colts.

romo cost me a game in fantasy....i tied instead of winning. the only two players in play monday night were romo on my team and crayton on my opponent's team. if he would have not sucked so much and thrown one less interception, i would have won. if that pass to TO that was called back would have been declared a reception, i would have won. if romo hadn't lost that fumble, i would have won....but no. now i'm 4-0-1. my perfection is ruined!! !! !!

and i'm most certainly NOT starting romo this weekend with them playing the patriots (who will eat the cowboys alive).

Allowing Randy Moss to go to the Patriots is just unfair. I think New England is the best team in the NFL by far right now.

My team is the Jaguars and they are doing pretty good as the running game is starting to pick back up again with Taylor and Jones-Drew. They just need better WR play to go with the defense starting to step back up again. The Jags could sneak into the playoffs.

My college team is FSU and things aren't so great there obviously. Xavier Lee might be missing the game Thursday night against Wake Forest from what I heard on the radio. That is bad news indeed as Weatherford has looked like crap this year. The good news is that UF and Miami lost. I love seeing USC and Notre Dame lose, very sad that the Golden Domers got their first win.

USF just keeps going with their awesome defense, they might make the BCS interesting if they go undefeated and 2 1 loss teams get into the national title game and they are excluded.
