I propose we abandon these insensitive usages and leave them for our history books. They all have synonyms that do not implicitly devalue left-handedness, except ambidextry, which will require a neologism like both-handedness.

Perhaps for people who are interchangeable in their use of their hands, they could be refered to as 'even-handed', which carries with it connotations of fairness and balance.

Just for the record, I can use a fork in either my left or right hand, I can throw a dart with either my left or right hand, on those rare occasions that I kick a football, I use my left foot. I am of an age where I was forced to use the right hand for writing and other things, rather than the left.

Is it innated or aquired ?

Does the child choose his hand because it is more easy with it, or he chooses randomly (or with social pressure...) and then develops is dexterity because he always practice with it ?

Well i found my right hand to be have more dexterity and easier to use but the difference between my hands is far bigger now that i subconscienly used my right hand as a preferance, particularly for intricate tasks, so i think it starts out as innate but the more use leads to the bigger hand bias but it can be worked on to use a different hand or be ambi-dextrious.

A good example of that is a piano player. With a lot of practising they can do anything with both hands.

Are you sure if that came from a satire site or not, because it sounds like it might have.

Me, I am left-handed and cannot understand how so many people can write with those limp right hands.

Because for most people the left hand is more limp than the right.

I'm a lefty. I was born a lefty. I've learned it's a right handed world, but I fit in pretty well. Although there are some really talented left handed people. Paul McCartney being one of them, Einstein too.
I obtained my left handed dominance from a great uncle. He was made to tie his left hand behind his back and learned to be right handed.

I'm happy being left handed.Thank goodeness in today's world, you can be a lefty!!

I prefer to use the term "both handed", though few people have the skill (or practice) to do most things with either hand. By the way, here is a good site for left-handed debate and discussion, if you're interested: http://www.left-handed.com/.

I'm strongly right-handed, but my mother's left-handed. So's my beloved.

Whenever I eat sitting next to my mum on her left side, we conk elbows all the time. :D

Funnily enough, although I'm right-handed I'm also right-footed. I thought most right-handed people were left-footed.

I have remained silent in regard to the content of the original post of this thread and the comments results from the various possible interpretations of the possible intent of the original message for far too long.

I felt like being ridiculous (and quoting the Simpsons) as this is a purposely ridiculous thread. It's my way of saying that this thread amuses me. Sorry, I'm not doing too great at coherency ATM.
