The only band with "sex-related songs" I can tolerate is the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

And that's usually because while they're direct, they're not the most offensive there is - and they're not on the side of "rape". Still more, the majority of their songs aren't about it either, so meh.

As far as sexism goes, as in prejudice and taking advantage of women and such... can't say I actually have any of that in my library. I'm kind of disgusted by the modern rap culture with that kind of stuff. Though mostly, it's the musical side, or lack thereof, which disgusts me the most. Just. Boring. "Beats". No. Music. Or. Melody. Or. Talent. At. All.

It's Getting Better All The Time - The Beatles

"I used to be mean to my woman, I beat her and kept her apart, from the things, that she loved. Man, I was mean, but I'm changing my scene and I'm doing the best, that I can."

Wow.

If you think the sixties are sexist just wait until you hear some of the trash on the radio these days.

The sixties.

Oh, just about everything! Most raps (they usually involve, "Shake your hot *** thang", or something like that), a lot of pop songs (think Miley Cyrus's "Can't Be Tamed" as an example, as with a multitude of Disney anything), some country songs, and many others. It's also disquieting that not many women are doing rock or alternative these days. I mean, defy the norm, girls! Don't stay away hiding your true self! Release your true self! Release it!

It sounds more like the song is the opposite of sexism, the point of view realizing that said sexism was wrong. ;)

there was a badly different point of view on domestic abuse back in the 1960's. People didnt considor it serious, and thought that family was too important and that people should put up with it. We know better now.

I don't like songs about sex - sexist or not.. as far as sexist songs go, "Miss Independent" I loathe - all about how self-sufficient women just haven't found the right man

I don't hate sexist music. I find some of it very funny like GirlBand. It's a couple middle aged guys pretending to be tween girls in songs

I'm not letting them off the hook just for the line "man I was mean but I'm changing my scene and I'm doing the best that I can". The narrative of the song is that he's "getting better" not because he had an epiphany that abuse was wrong, but rather because he has a new woman in his life. I agree with Cockny Rebel and it is one of my most hated Beatles' songs for that reason. He is more or less saying that not abusing his current girlfriend (because she's so wonderful) makes up for abusing his former girlfriend.

The other song of theirs that I hate is "Run For Your Life". I hate it for the exact same reason. The entire song from one end to the other is about a man who threatens to kill his girlfriend if she ever dares to break up with him. And the Beatles were the "nice guys" to the Rolling Stones "bad boys". Not to let the stones off the hook either. They wrote "Under My Thumb" which I can't even listen to.

I love this song.

Woman aren't the only subject of sexism, by the way. How else can you explain the lack of convicted female rapists? The legal system is biased by naturally treating the women as victims in lots of cases and don't give the man a fair trial.

Women who rape are rare, rare enough that it tends to make headlines. The rape victims are usually young teenage boys and it is usually statutory rape. There have been some headline cases of middle school or highschool teachers convicted of statutory rape.

I'm not sure why you bolded convicted. Are you implying that there are plenty of rape cases brought against women that went to trial but she was found not guilty? I don't think so at all. Somebody would have written about that by now if it happened. What is far more likely is there is some underreprting by male statutory rape victims who don't report it because they perceive themselves as lucky rather than as a rape victim, or because they fear what their friends will think if they don't perceive themselves as lucky but rather as a rape victim.

It's a horrible sexist song, but I listen to it and I always imagine in being sung by a woman to another woman. A lesbian BDSM song. Okay, I know that's weird.

Ewwww...sexist from the other side, maybe, but I cringe if I ever hear Heart's 'All I Want To Do Is Make Love To You'.

Because, if you can't afford IVF and don't want to leave your sterile hubby, picking up some fit young hitch-hiker along the side of I-5 is a really great solution, right?

I'm a dude, but this goes to any type of song. If I don't like certain lyrics, I'll probably just block them out. I usually don't even pay attention to lyrics anyway. I hear them, but they're more of a background object that gives the vocals something to sing. They have to be really great to catch my attention, such as Shinedown's stuff.

The OP listed "The Wanderer" by Dion. Shame, it's one of my all-time favorite tunes. Catchy as hell, you gotta give it that.
