Yeh right, and Hitler had to annexe the Sudetenland as it was full of Germans and then had to take over Austria because, well they speak German there don't they, and then he had to invade Poland because...because... OK, back to the present; now American troops are in Iraq, they have to shoot people at roadblocks who don't understand what's been shouted at them in foulmouthed English, and they have to drop bombs on any bunch of insurrectionists and, OK, we can't be sure they were insurrectionists, and no, we couldn't be sure, from an altitude of thousands of feet, that they were carrying any weapons, but they were strolling casually down a street, which is damned suspicious behaviour....

That is funny - I run across this all the time when I tell people I'm vegan - they always say 'Hitler was a vegetarian - did you know that?!' - like I'm going to say - 'Well, give me a steak then!'

The ultimate in Irony Alex.

I find there is very little debate here, everybody agrees with each other...
Anyway, there are some forums I go on daily where people are all republicans and cannot believe Bush has done anything wrong. What should I say to them?
One even pointed out that environmentalism is a new mythology.
How can you convince someone like that?

I don't prefer too much debate. The increase chance in personal attacks will probably be too high for many of us to put up with. As it is, politics isn't easy to follow to it's fullest, unless it is one of your main interests.

We all have our own opinions and it is difficult to change anyone's mind. I think it would be easier to have an incumbent stay in office especially with the country's current status.

For a group of people (those on the autistic spectrum) who generally don't like change, change in the President doesn't seem to be a problem.

I'm a Democrat, but Kerry flip flops and is not honest. He's a traitor also cause after he came home he met with the north in Paris. They used that info from Kerry to use on the POW and make the confess they killed innocent people. I would vote Bush.

Abortion kills a disproportionate number of Autistic children

I don't understand this - I didn't think you could assertain autism in the womb? Perhaps the issue with abortion is more about the environment that the potential child will grow up in, rather than the availability of clinics. Abortion is a very complex and horrible thing for any pregnant woman to face. And it seems to my observations that once the decision is made, some women would rather die from complications due to dodgy backyard abortions than bring their child into the world as they know it. I am not speaking for myself, as when I fell pregnant I wanted desperately to keep my child despite my unhappy parents suggestions. I do know that a lot of women who go through abortion, do not do it without a lot of soul searching and distress. Most are extremely distraught and suffer guilt/depression as a result. I am not trying to justify it, but I am saying that when a person makes that decision, there are very serious reasons why.
Oh yes - and George Bush is a very dangerous man - if he's so concerned about human rights and weapons of mass destruction, why didn't he save the north koreans while he was at it - they were boasting about their nuclear weapons at the time Bush was attacking iraq... and human rights abuses.... don't get me started!

No, the states that voted for Kerry were more socially progressive states, while the states where Bush won the majority of votes are for the most part less socially progressive. That being said, IQ really does NOT come into play over this matter, It has more to do with cultural attitudes in those states.

Also, I have to add that I wasn't entirely pleased with the Democrats picking Kerry as their nominee.

Being a right-wing conservative, I would have probably voted for Bush. I do not agree with everything that he has done, but no one is perfect and can do everything right, so why even bother?

It's kind of hard being conservative, however, in a state that is as liberal as it is. Perhaps only New York is more so than here, especially if you go to the costal regions of California. Personally, who is president will not affect me (I believe) as much as social issues such as abortion (everyone's favourite...I know) or the controversy over gay marriage, which most conservatives would oppose. If anyone's been listening to what's gone on in San Francisco over the past year or so, then they'd know....
