Worst: Power metal, viking metal and black metal. Why? Horrible tunes, crap melodies.

Prefer Trash metal (Antrax-ish sound), and Death Metal (like SYL).

I also like "Comedy metal" (if that is a subgenre) like Zimmers Hole.

I don't think there's a single metal subgenre that I can usually stand. They all stink. Lol.
I can tolerate what I would call "classic heavy metal", meaning, the ones that pioneered the genre in the likes of Iron Maiden or maybe people who came before such as Black Sabbath. These usually have a handful of songs I enjoy though not among my favourites. Now, Nu-metal ... that brings lameness to a whole new level. Those metal bands who think of themselves as opera divas and maestros are even worse.

There's this nu-metal band I can't recall the name, they had this song called "The Book of Heavy Metal". Now, think of that... it's a cliche song about a cliche niche. Like, there's a bible to making metal... and they are singing about it. Plus, in the lyrics there was this: "I die now to live forever". Hey, I'm sorry, it's not only the music that stinks. There's no one thing right about the whole stuff!

No offense intended, folks. It's just my opinion. People into the metal side of things probably would have loads of things to say about my taste in music too.

Well, contrary to most here, I dislike most 'metal' subgenres ending with metal lol... Im all 'core' for the most part...

In particular I dislike power, folk, viking or black metal. Juat cant get into it.

I happen to really like the kinds most of you hate, in particular Mathcore, Numetal and Metalcore....

It becomes less metal to most when classic forms of metal are hybridized with influences from rap, punk, hardcore and jazz. I guess to be technical it is 'less metal' as in a lower percentage of metal influence.

I agree djent has been beaten to death. Meshuggah is very stale, but giving cresit where credit is due, they are easily the most imitated heavy band of the last 30 years.

These subgenres are what I consider satanic, and I avoid them like the plague.

All subgenres of metal are Satanic.

Even Christian metal?

In the opinion of many bilically adherent Christians, all metal, and popular music in general, rap, country, whatever, is Satanic.

I lived according to very fundamentalist biblical views, and among them was this concept.

Yes if it's metal it's satanic. If that's not truth then don't make blanket statements about doom, black, and death metal.

Ah yes, the classic "all metalheads are satanists and nazis" strawman. Makes for a great bait.

Explore those genres further and then tell me all of doom, death, and black metal is about satan.

Oh, trust me, I have - I've been listening to metal since the age of 12. And black metal is about the only openly satanic one out of those three genres. I could name a literal ton of death and doom metal bands that don't touch upon anything remotely satanic in their song lyrics. That and - once again - Christian metal is a thing.

Do us both a favor and stop right now. Or at least fact-check your statements before posting them.

Except for the fact that their are a ton of black metal artists I can name that don't sing about satan. You perform your own fact check. 5 ones are Panopticon, Violet Cold, Laochra, Sickle of Dust, Sólstafir, Sorrow Plagues and so many more. None are satanic. There are so many non satanic bands. I also don't get this avoidance of satanic music. Oh my god Satan was mentioned. I must hide and cover my ears.

You're absolutely right - I'm not denying that fact. And while black metal isn't my favorite genre, I can appreciate it for what it is. But still, Satanism is a prominent theme within that genre.

While it isn't actually metal, nu-metal and the fratboyish (and/or misogynistic) metalcore that appeals to macho meatheads.

Wanky prog and tech stuff bores me, but isn't quite as bad.
