Personally I'd say symphonic, goth, viking, folk, alternative, christian, glam, neo-classical, nu and power are the least favorite metal subgenres to me.
What are the worst metal subgenres to you?
I don't think there's a single metal subgenre that I can usually stand. They all stink. Lol.
I can tolerate what I would call "classic heavy metal", meaning, the ones that pioneered the genre in the likes of Iron Maiden or maybe people who came before such as Black Sabbath. These usually have a handful of songs I enjoy though not among my favourites. Now, Nu-metal ... that brings lameness to a whole new level. Those metal bands who think of themselves as opera divas and maestros are even worse.
There's this nu-metal band I can't recall the name, they had this song called "The Book of Heavy Metal". Now, think of that... it's a cliche song about a cliche niche. Like, there's a bible to making metal... and they are singing about it. Plus, in the lyrics there was this: "I die now to live forever". Hey, I'm sorry, it's not only the music that stinks. There's no one thing right about the whole stuff!
No offense intended, folks. It's just my opinion. People into the metal side of things probably would have loads of things to say about my taste in music too.
