Everyone loves weapons!! ! You're just in denial!
The amount of time between when weapons are mentioned, and the hoplophobe brigade shows up is always finite. You're right, they are in denial. The position of those who are against the right to defend one's self and ones own is invariably based upon some combination of inferiority complex (externally reflected as a superiority complex for being "evolved" enough to think guns are evil), self loathing (externally reflected as a loathing of others, which leads to the paradoxal stance that people cannot be trusted to use the power of firearms responsibly, but they can be trusted to behave when they are disarmed), and simple irrational fear (externally reflected as a fear over anyone else having things so scary as firearms; "Because I find guns
scary, I don't want anyone
else to have them!"; mistrust of self is at the root of this).
Anti-gun arguments are entirely vapid; in order to believe in them, people must state their argument and immediately turn off their brain. Watch, as I blow a gentle puff of rational thought on them, and they disperse...

If we got rid of guns, there'd somehow be much less violence and murder!
OK, let's spend about, oh, 3 seconds considering the span of "civilized" human history... One... Two... Three... Hmm, seems like there was a lot of violence going on before there were guns, doesn't it? Even today, genocidal atrocities are committed on a regular basis using machetes. Nope, no water in that argument.
2.
Guns are only instruments of death and violence!
Defense. Protection. Peacekeeping. Security. Empowerment. Equalization. Resistance of tyranny. I leave additional practical applications as exercises for readers who have a brain. I know first hand of a few instances where a firearm was brandished, never fired, and a potentially dangerous and violent situation was immediately diffused; this happens very commonly; hell, the police do this every day; and, low and behold, note that there is
no violence involved in this most common use for firearms (how can it be!). Nope, no water here either.

We've evolved beyond the need for guns! We are, uh, more evolved and stuff!
This is the delusional ideology of utopian optimism that is not actually reflected anywhere in reality. But, I suppose that it does make those deluded by the notion feel better about themselves, and superior to others. See my answer to vapid argument #1.
4.
If guns are against the law, nobody will have them, and there'll be no violent crime!
Um, yeah. This implies there is no crime period (i.e., everyone adheres to the law), which is obviously nonsense. And, once again, see my answer to vapid argument #1.

People who feel the need to be armed are cowards!
Tell that to all of the police out there; why aren't they using martial arts to do their job, I wonder? (DUH.) For my own part, if you wish to consider me a coward for having the foresight and wisdom to be prepared to defend my family... Well, you have my pity for being so deluded. I value my family, and would be a failure as a father and husband if I didn't take every step in my power to be prepared to defend them.
6.
Nobody needs guns! The police will protect us!
Riiiiight. If ever you encounter a mugger, or a rapist, or a home invasion gang... Go ahead and try asking them to kindly stand by while you dial 911, and wait 20 minutes for the police to show up; um, good luck with that. There is an
established legal precedent that indicates that the police
do not have any responsibility towards protecting individual citizens; their job is to keep the larger peace. Those of us with weaker constitutions will pine for someone else to take care of us and protect us. Ladies and gentlemen, the safety of you and your loved ones is ultimately in
your hands. It's frightening to have that sort of responsibility, I know; but it doesn't go away when you stick your head in the sand. ALSO, can you really depend on the police or whatever protectionist forces to really be there when you need them, when the s**t hits the fan? When that hurricane leveled New Orleans a few years ago, low and behold, most of the police simply fled, leaving folks to fend for themselves in what was practically a state of anarchy.
<sigh> I can't believe I have to keep educating people like this.
Good fortune,
