I'll just list bands that have had an emotional effect and/or were a turning point in my life...

Chiasm, Magnet, Electric Wizard, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, A Silver Mt. Zion, and The Union Underground (Who are mostly significant just because they got me into music) I first heard one of their songs on the Stick Death website. That was so long ago, almost like it was a different person, in a different time.

This old thread seems overdue for an update.

The first band that sprang to my mind was the Eagles. Their magnificent "Desperado" is an enduring masterpiece, timeless, heartfelt, poignant, musically beautiful, haunting, fabulous.
