Britney? No sh$#! Take a no-talent Musketeer and feed her sleazy come-ons through a pitch-shifter to hide the fact she isn't a singer. Then give her inplants at an earlier age than normally so the dirty-old-men don't care how bad her music is...

Or how about "Macarena"? Frankly most of today's hit radio seems designed to set-off us 'aspies' and make it impossible to work. It was the case with my past jobs deffo! Not to mention that everything gets repeated ad nauseum!

But then there's Bob Seger! Actually he is occasionally good, especially the earlier stuff. But "Old Time Rock And Roll", "Fire Down Below" are barely listenable. A college friend from Germany dismisses Seger as "meat and potatoes rock" -- talks about 'soul' that Seger himself would never have no matter how he'd excruciatingly strain his voice. LOL!

I hate Emo, pop-punk ,and Nu-Metal singers. Well as far as Pop-Punk is concerned it's a b'stard genre. I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to Punk and Post-Punk.
If you ask me and most people don't (though they should) you can't go wrong with some Morrissey.

Same with me. The beginning of the end was when Nirvana became huge, who I never really liked to begin with. I long for when 'alternative' meant something, like Joy Division, Pere Ubu, Public Image Ltd. I'm getting to be middle-aged grumpy!

I know emo never cut it for me! I hasten to even call it music...

I have yet to hear it, but the Mexican Death Metal band Brujeria did an apparently hilarious ripoff of Macarena entitled Marijuana.

That being said, I find that most commercial music is incredibly irritating to begin with, voices aside, and probably one of the most annoying things about a lot of 'pop' music is the ability for it to be memorable only because of it's sheer obnoxiousness, and the pervasiveness of how particularly hideous riffs can lodge themselves in your mind, not to mention the glutenous sentiments involved . Bands and musicians that fall under this catagory would be:

No Doubt/Gwen Stefani
Michael Jackson
Blind Melon
Blues Traveller
Hootie and the Blowhards (Oops, I meant Blowfish)
Blink 182
The Beach Boys
The Flaming Lips
Stone Temple Pilots
Michael Bolton
Duran Duran
Captain and Toenail (Tenille, I mean)
Cher
Britney Spears, Pink, and other manufactured "Stars"
"Boy Bands" in General
Every Idiot that jumped on the Grunge Lite bandwagon in the 90's and imitated the Vocal stylings of Eddie Vedder, or the guy from Alice In Chains
Korn
Eminem
Limp Bizkit/Fred Durst
Emo in General
Etc,etc, ad nauseam.

On the other hand having a really irritating voice does not rule out the ability to produce good or at least interesting music. Some Bands/People that fall into this catagory include:

Rocket From the Tombs,Pere Ubu/David Thomas
Iggy Pop
Legendary Pink Dots/Ed Caspell,Prophet Qa'Spel or whatever he's calling himself these days
The Bush Tetras
The Flaming Lips
Butthole Surfers/Gibby Haines
Johnny (Rotten) Lydon
Dead Kennedies/Jello Biafra
The Crucif---ks/Doc Corbin Dart
Genesis P. Orridge
The Beastie Boys/Ad Rock
The Plasmatics/ Wendy O. Williams
The Superheroines

Then again people with really hideous Singing voices can provide serious comedic relief as well. Check out:

Anything by John Lennon where Yoko Ono is singing
Bebe Buell (Her really screamy stuff)

Just my opinion.

Did I mention I have a bizarre vendetta against Nirvana? I don't know why I hate them, I just do. And My Chemical Romance bugs me too.

Against Nirvana :o oh no! Nirvana is good in my opinion! I CANNOT STAND Macy Grey... (I don't know how to spell her name either) *shudders* it is frightful! See I think I notice the music more than the voice so I would agree with all the teenboppery, emo, manufactured singers having bad voices, but I think it's a case of their bad music not their bad voices - at least the songs that have been editted so it sounds alot better.
Screaming stuff is good unless it gets to the ear hurting stage because they hold the scream for way too long. Otherwise it's okay.

That's fair. Anyone who can't remember the words to the National Anthem deserves not to have her name spelled properly. I like the voice, but God, is she messed up! Saw her on some show and she looked about as high as Mariah Carey's voice.

OOO! Someone who likes Legendary Pink Dots and Bush Tetras. Seen LPD twice and also remember Ka Spel opening for Skinny Puppy way back in '86 (yeah, I'm kinda old.) Saw a reformed Bush Tetras in '96 in NYC when I went to see Current '93. I'm actually heading out there later...

Used to be in a musical project with some beatnick-sy guy and we used to do one of LPD's "Premonition' songs. Forgot which one though...

I saw them in July of 1997 in Charlotte, NC, and again in November of 1998 at the same venue. The 1997 show was much better, because in 1998 they hed been on the road continuously for about 4 days without any rest before they played. I remember hearing them on College radio in the mid 80's, when I lived in New England, but didn't really think much of them at the time.

I normally like Johnnie Depps work, and while I like the new Willie Wonka, His voice in the that movie puts me on edge.

Sorry to anyone here who likes them, but any whiny emo voice gets to me. Bands like Simple Plan. Their music is just infused with whine. I don't know why its called emotional punk anyways. All music is inherintly emotional. And the only emotions portrayed in emo are angst and desperation.

As I've said before, any really high-pitched-slightly-monotonous female lead's voice tends to drive me up the wall. There are some exceptions, like t A. t. U. and Aqua (comic relief), but some drive me up the wall. The singer in Scooter would be an example. And Amy Lee still drives me mental, but her songs do have some emotional background, which is good. But her songs do remind me of earlier this year, (a very dark time) and I just tend to avoid them altogether. Bjork's voice can be irritating, but her music does detract from her unique tones. (I'll bet money that she's aspie) I do like dance music, and all such artists- Peaches etc, seem to have a bit of this in their voices.
