I used Adobe Illustrator, but there are alternatives like Inkscape, it's very nice and free. It doesn't require lots of space or memory, any computer will do :)

I did this in Inkscape some time ago:

I used an image I had downloaded, it took some time as it was a photograph of a real deer, so I
had to choose what to draw, what to left out, but I think it came out ok.

the link to Inkscape is:

And RedMage, think positivie, think that you CAN do lights and shadows, it needs you to be a good observer, notice details, and dedicate some time to do it.

But how do I do shadows?

EDIT: I can't download it, it'll take an hour.

actually, the original drawing of the bomb isn't very helpful. Try looking for pictures that have
more contrast in light and shadows, like this one:

where you can see more clearly what's a shadow

EDIT: If you want me to, I can split the Inskcape file in smaller pieces, so you can download four or five files of 4 mb each instead of one big file of 20 mb. Just send me a message.

Cool. But if I do my own drawings, how can I do a shadow?

I'm making another video for you now, but I'll make another one tomorrow to demonstrate shadows.

I love Dragonball!!

I think I got the style of my characters eyes from the DBZ ones. I thought that they would be rounded at the top and square at the bottom!

try observing for example your hand, see how the shadows look when there's a light in the ceiling. See how it gets dark when you put your hand between you and the light.
Next, observe how shadows change when it receives shadows from a desk lamp, and how it changes depending on how you change the angle of your hand against the lamp.

With your drawings it's the same, try thinking "hmm, if light comes this way, what will receive more light? What gets more shadows?"

start simple, don't try to do some complex stuff because it will frustrate you.

If I told you what I had to draw when I started taking classes, I'd bore you to death haha :P

pages and pages of "lines", "curves", lots of stuff apparently meaningless.

Only after we did about 40 pages of that, our teacher moved on to the next stage,
we started doing some simple exercises with just paper and pencil. We copied a glass, a bolt,
a door, very basic things.
In fact it took us more than six months of exercises, using no color, only a pencil.

next semester we did some basic color stuff, filling squares with color, just squares, not a single drawing!

that took like a month.

only after that we started working with color

hope I didn't bore you to death :P

KBABZ, that's a good idea!

*award!!*

Glad someone agrees! I'd personally like to see how Reddie does with Booger, Bob or Kipo. Booger and Bob are wildly simple, and Booger and Kipo are my favourite characters...

I don't mind! It's the practice that counts! Besides, you should see my SISTER try it, they suck!
