It’s easily spread.When the local county fair was in town my daughter and lots of the school kids caught it at the same time.
I suspected a sick employee working at the fair ,maybe food service or ride operator.

It might be a reactivation from years ago.
Covid exposure can reactive it even if you didn't have active Covid.

Beyond that it's a virus.
You can get it from sharing any item with a person who was exposed.
