... and then be careful how you speak around other women too, because women are only allowed to BS.

Truth is generally frowned upon.

I was thinking about starting a separate thread about this, but maybe I’ll just post here. Constant sexism in online communities is exhausting. It’s really not surprising when folks get tired of it and leave because it can get to the point where the support community does more harm than good, especially for folks who’ve dealt with a lot of sexism or even gender-based violence offline. That’s not a complaint about moderators who lock threads and remove content as needed. It’s more about sexism being a pervasive issue.

I agree. The sexism here and in some other online communities is out of control. It's exhausting to respond to it, only to see the same mindset continue from member after member, or in thread after thread.

We've gone out of our way for years, trying to educate people about homophobia, transphobia, racism, ableism, etc. I think those topics are under control for the most part, but casual sexism continues ad nauseam.

I don't know why sexism and gender-based stereotype are often allowed to sneak under the radar when all the other -isms are zero tolerance. It's exhausting to read it but also to waste my time replying in hopes that I can make a difference. With a few exceptions, the people who 'get it' seem to have left this site, but the ones who don't get it carry on.

Maybe folks should stop and ask themselves: would I feel okay posting this content about other groups of people? Would it be racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, etc. if I made similar generalizations (or whatever) about other demographics?
