I owned horses as a kid; three race horses (Whisky, Sherry, and Gin if I remember rightly - can you tell I come from a family of alcoholics?) which I shared with my cousin as I was too young to ride them in races, and one pony of my own called Nutmeg who was like Eeyore from Winnie-the-Pooh. I was still never overly obsessed with horses at all, it just came from being in a snobby family, lol.

I've never been into horses in my life and I'm a girl.

I've never been particularly interested in horses. I think they are pretty, but I feel that way about all animals really.

One of my close childhood friends loved horses and for the life of me I could never understand why. My obsession was cooking, so animals were totally outside my range. I never knew what to do when she wanted to pretend to be horses or puppies or whatever the animal du jour was, and couldn't grasp what made My Little Pony more appealing than Barbie. I like horses, they're cool, just like all other animals, but I don't really get it.

Anyone who truly knows horses and knows the spectrum also knows how similar horses are to us. I am completely on the same wavelength with them. I know exactly how they think and react because I'm much like they are. That's to say the least. I could ramble for days (surprise!) because horses are my special interest, but I'll spare you and give you pictures instead.

Me, too! I used to ditch school so I could ride when no one was around. (not recommended, of course. lol)

Yes because of the other people around, but not of the actual horse itself. The first time I started riding I was a little aprehensive because it was so high off the ground but at my second lesson I LOVED it. I was NEVER scared of the horses themselves but then I was never scared of any animal. People were what caused problems for me.

That was the same for me, I was terrified of all the people there but not of the horse. When I was ten I was thrown off and broke my hip and for a few years was a little apprehensive to ride, but I got back on fairly quickly. I don't even mind being thrown off anymore, but horse people kind of scare me. 8O

When I was a young child I was obsessed with horses, and I'm still a bit. But as a child I was also obsessed with geological phenomena, and that was considered the "odd obsession".
A lot of girls are obsessed with horses, and this doesn't mean they're Aspies.

I was never really into real - life horses, myself (the really big ones actually kind of intimidate me even now) but when I was little, I enjoyed riding ponies. :D I've also been interested in My Little Pony for years now....the First Generation and the Fourth Generation.

When I was at primary school I was the only girl in the class who DIDN'T have an obsession with horses (and they were all NTs).

Oh, I forgot to mention, I also liked the movie Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmaron when I was a kid. It wasn't that I didn't LIKE horses; I think they're very intelligent, affectionate, powerful, majestic animals....it's just that they never held the same sort of fascination that my favorite animals - dolphins/whales, crows/ravens, and raccoons - did for me.

I do remember having playdates with a girl my age who was not quite NT and also really liked horses....I live in a state where horse racing is a big deal, and this girl's parents actually owned a horse ranch and some of the horses that were raced. Their daughter would take riding lessons which I would sometimes accompany her to during our playdates. I can remember being so excited to be around all the horses in the paddock that I was always jumping around and skipping (when I was very young, I never really walked when I also had the option to run, bounce, skip, or gallop) and my friend's governess (I never saw her actual parents) was terrified that I'd spook one of the horses and get trampled.

I used to be quite obsessed with horses. That was exactly the time I started getting better, social-wise. Personally I think horses have a direct influence on my improvement.

The opposite happened to me, lol.

However, when I was in middle school there were other girls that liked horses, but they liked them because they thought about princes, fairy tales, and because horses were beautiful and intelligent animals.
Well, I think that horses are beautiful and intelligent, but since I was a child I've always liked to classify them according to the breed and the coat, and I almost exclusively gathered informations about Appaloosas and Thoroughbreds, that are my favourite breeds. Nothing to do with princes and fairy tales.
