I dislike any kids' show which condescends to its audience. Kids are insanely smart and clever, and seeing shows which pander to kids with the lowest-common denominator writing just makes me sick. It's not as much of a problem as it used to be in the '90s, but one thing I particularly hated about "generic kids shows" was having no faith in their demographic's attention spans: shows that were just a constant stream of loud noise and manic visuals under the impression that if it even had a moment of quiet kids would immediately lose all interest. Shows like that have no respect for kids whatsoever and as such I have no respect for them.

Luckily we've entered a kind of re-renaissance of television animation and have a lot of great new shows which focus on headier plots, better artwork, more complex characters and a more adult (read: mature, but not risque) sense of humor: 'Adventure Time', 'Steven Universe', 'Gravity Falls', 'Over the Garden Wall'...those make me so happy. Conversely, you have something like 'Johnny Test', with its cheap Flash animation, derivative and two-dimensional characters, nonsensical storylines, awful dialogue and a severe case of ADHD which legitimately make me angry. Kids deserve better. Kids deserve Pixar and Studio Ghibli, not cheap Canadian Flash cartoons.

This is a good post and you should feel good. I agree with everything you said.

Kiddy show I hate the most would be MLP: FiM, hands down. More specifically the male fanbase (sorry, guys) who just take cartoon ponies to a whole new level of creepy obsession. I tried multiple times to watch it and failed to see how it attracted so much hype. It wasn't awful, but it wasn't anything awe-inspiring, either. Bronies are just gross to me.

Also, as a fan of the original Johnny Quest, Johnny Test makes me see red.

I watched a few episodes of 'MLP' when it started making big waves on the internet and I enjoyed it, though not to the extent most of its fanbase does. I really dug the art direction and, while its no masterpiece, compared to the original series which existed solely to sell toys, the writing wasn't altogether bad. There seemed to be at least an effort to make a good show, which I respect. I've heard the show's gotten worse in the last few seasons, but I wouldn't know.

I never really saw a connection between 'Johnny Quest' and 'Johnny Test' other than the name similarity. The latter is pretty much just a gender-swapped rip-off of 'Dexter's Laboratory', except with worse animation, characters and writing.

I never liked Dora, because I found her fourth wall 'gaze' condescending, and her voice was really annoying. Then there was this weird show with gummy bears I once watched on GMTV (Jellikins, I think?). That bored me to tears.

I used to quite like Caillou when I was younger, but looking back at it, I can see why people find it obnoxious, what with the titular character always getting his own way.

Oh, and as for Brum, Boohbah, Barney and the Fimbles, they were pure nightmare material.

Speaking of Brum, the show was aired here in the states on TLC in the early 2000s during the "Ready Set Learn" block in the mornings. I believe it was aired early in the morning (6AM?)
TLC also aired "Hi-5", which I watched a couple times as a 5-6 year old, Pappyland (which again aired early in the morning, probably 6:30 or 7AM), Salty's Lighthouse, and Nini's Treehouse. Hi-5 was an American adaption of another Australian children's band, also named Hi-5. The original show aired from 1999-2011 and then was revived (Australia only) in 2013. In the US, Hi-5 aired from 2003-2007.

And speaking of Bananas in Pajamas, I rarely if ever watched the show, but had plushes of both B-1 and B-2. Like most of my toys and stuffed animals, they were sold to the thrift store when I was about 13.

Shocked that you watched Boohbah. That show was a TRAINWRECK. Boohbah is Tinky Winky + a few ecstasy pills + some mushrooms. How did PBS get that show on the air at all? I would have rather seen a Teletubbies show where it was all animated.

The Barney adventure movie. It was one of the most trippy things I ever watched. I was 5 years old and at a babysitters house. My mom was in New York and I had the choice to either watch The Mummy or Barney's trippy egg adventure. Since The Mummy was too scary for me I decided to watch the latter. It's about the pedosaur Barney going on a rainbow ecstasy shroom trip with a bunch of kids carrying an egg.

Dora the Explorer and her brother Diego.

The red scary constantly screaming thing that is known by the name "Elmo".

Teletubbies.......I mean, a vacuum cleaner who sucks up impossible things like balls and scooters and those so-called "Magical Events" that are more like "Horror Events," it's no wonder I was afraid to watch this show as a child. Barney and Friends is my second worst.

LOVE: The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and My Little Pony Friendship is Magic. Why? One word. Friendship. Another? Peaceful. Maybe a few more words? Quiet, genuinely funny, great voice acting, original stories, new songs that are not that same thing over and over again. I'd go to both the 100 Acre Woods and Equestria any day before I have set one foot near Teletubbyland. I even got my mom's new boyfriend watching Pooh and the Ponies.

"A children's story, only enjoyed by children, is not a very good children's story at all" - C.S. Lewis

(P.S. I'm also on the fence with Thomas. Bob the Builder was way better.)

Even as a kid I disliked Barney and Friends. I felt the same way about Teletubbies and The Wiggles, although I wasn't a kid anymore by the time they came along.

My favorites were Reading Rainbow because it had an appealing host and encouraged basic literacy, and Shining Time Station because it blended valuable life lessons with evocative fantasy. Without the framework of Stacy, Schemer and Mr. Conductor, the Thomas the Tank Engine vignettes would have held virtually no interest.

Here's a video made by a fellow Aspie who goes over some of the most hated modern kids cartoons.

I hated Barney as a kid. Funny, I don't think I ever really watched it, I think I hated it because of peer pressure. That isn't to say that I would have liked it if I tried watching it! I just didn't and hated it anyway. xD

I have the same image in my mind of Teletubbies.
