I do not agree.
I think blaming murder on music is the beginning of something, like creating a chemotherapy for the cancer eating away at society. The beginning of healing much pain and suffering hidden away, rationalized away. Shining a very bright light on it. This rot is being defended and propogated by ignorance, spread around like AIDS. It's no less deadly and even more alluring. It is digusting how supposedly smart people will defend this disease. People who are clearly intelligent will help it spread to new areas and cause more misery, pain and death. Will it have to happen to you before you sit up and notice? You all know what I mean.

I love Marilyn Manson, I think the man is a genius and about the only artist of this generation who's mastered the shock-rock scene. He's done it with a huge amount of finesse - this kind of discussion is exactly what it's all about - and continues to do so. The majority of the hatred towards him and the band is created from rumours people would spread. "Ooh, that Manson guy, he rips puppies apart at his concerts!". Nonsense, but they add to the mystique and the aura of badness that surrounds the band. He's just the modern David Bowie.
Honestly, you just need to take it for what it is - a show. It's all an act, a stage persona he's created and put together masterfully. If you don't like it, then don't listen to it. But the fact that it is so overtly just an act - and the fact that fans recognise it as such - is where people seem to miss the point. He doesn't take it seriously; Bryan Warner is an incredibly intelligent man and countless interviews show his depth of perception. That one from Bowling for Columbine is not an isolated case. He's not stupid by any means, and he isn't a bad man - he's simply created a persona and not done anything to quash the false rumours that add to the myth. You've gotta admire just how well he's done it.
The music is pretty amazing too, I'm not usually a fan of metal but his is brilliant.
If you really want 'dangerous', 'satanic', 'evil', 'encouraging murder and violence', 'anti-Christian', etc then just have a quick read about some other bands.
Mayhem would be a good place to start.
Quote:
In April 1991, Dead was found dead at the age of 22, having suffered a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head and several lacerations to the wrists, inflicted by a knife he had bought that day. Dead committed suicide in a house he was sharing in Kråkstad with the other members of the band, and left a note saying "Excuse all the blood, cheers."[2] Other members of the band claimed it was more extensive, also saying "The knife was too dull to finish the job so I had to use the shotgun." Euronymous was first to discover the body, and took a series of photographs of the corpse, one of which was later stolen and used as cover art for the bootleg album Dawn of the Black Hearts. .... Hellhammer claimed that Euronymous had taken pieces of Dead's brain and made a stew, in which he had put ham, frozen vegetables, and pepper: "He'd always said he wanted to eat flesh, so he figured this was an easy way." However, Euronymous later admitted that he had not actually eaten any part of Dead's body, though he had intended to. Euronymous also claimed to have collected and forged fragments of Dead's skull into necklaces, sending pieces to those he felt 'worthy' (amongst those rumoured to be in possession of such pieces are the members of Swedish black metal band Marduk & Abruptum). Hellhammer has said he made a necklace from Dead's skull fragments as well..... Upon arrival, Vikernes fatally stabbed Euronymous with a knife, although Vikernes claims that Euronymous had been planning to kill him for quite some time, and that upon his arrival to Euronymous' apartment, Euronymous had attempted to attack him first. The autopsy revealed that Euronymous suffered twenty-three stab wounds: two to the head, five to the neck & sixteen to the back. However, Vikernes claims that Euronymous fell onto pieces of broken glass, from a lamp shade broken in the ruckus, which he says, attributed to the multiple puncture wounds.
Etc
Now that's 'bad influence' 'satanic' 'evil' etc.
Not an intelligent, creative musician with a talent for acting and a penchant for stage makeup.
