I'm watching Abbott Elementary and am definitely getting signs from Gregory. In fact I think they've all but said it in the show.

There's an episode where the characters make a huge deal about his eating habits and that's what really tipped me off. That is SUCH a relatable experience and it's fun to see it portrayed in media because it's gosh darn annoying IRL and people need to mind their own business.

Hank Hill from the cartoon King Of The Hill has lots of autistic traits. He's very direct & straightforward, he's kind of naive socially, he has problems expressing affection, he has a special interest which is propane, he's very predictable & likes routine, he's very set in his ways & does not handle sudden unexpected changes well. A bit or a lot of these traits are probably explained by Hank's abusive dad Cotten. Cotten fought in the army during World War 2 & Cotten acted like Hank was a military cadet & Cotren was Hank's sargent. Cotten often criticized Hank who could never measure up to Cotten's military expectations due to Hank being a kid.

I've long thought that.

I don't think any of these characters are autistic and I don't even know most of them.

Characters who act autistic

1.Beetlejuice definately on the spectrum because he's direct, weird, and quirky. He also doesn't work well with others along with having trouble understanding boundaries. In the second movie, he doesn't understand that Lydia is not interested in him. He also had ADHD which he is hyper and impulsive. Finally, he doesn't understand unwritten social rules.

2. Rainbow Dash from My Little Pony - She is neurodivese and a visual learner.

Bella Baxter from the movie Poor Things definitely has traits
similar to people who are on the spectrum as does Brandon Frye from the movie Brick.

That was certainly my take on her.

I think Brick Heck on the Middle may show signs of being on the Spectrum.

Possibly Arthur Martin, played by Rainn Wilson, in season 3, episode 6 of Six Feet Under.
I should look on the previous pages to see if this was already suggested.

Random tangent thoughts.

I'm not sure writers always approach characters as being on the spectrum. Back in the old days, pre-1990s (although Rain Man was 1988), I don't really know because I have not done research. But there was a time when an autistic person was depicted as totally non verbal, not responsive, maybe a bit erratic. Then there was the depiction of autistic savants. If there were people that appeared to be autistic, in our eyes, it was because the writer based them on someone they knew, someone were acquainted with, something they read, or saw and built on. They may not have identified it as being on the autistic spectrum. I don't think they consulted the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.

So I'm very forgiving (mostly) of the fuzziness of how autistic people are depicted. I do not recognize many of the characters in this thread, but that's okay. Perception, knowledge, and understanding is an evolution in our lifetime and hopefully it changes. The question for me is when do I accept it for being what it is, or do I get miffed. I suspect it is how dumb (my opinion) the story and depiction is.

The Mozart character in the film Amadeus, is an excellent portrayal, but I don't know if it is true to life. Another is Brian, who pops up from time to time in Maeve Binchey's books.

The only difference was that Mozart is a real figure while the rest are fictitious.

Characters
1. Josephine or Jo March from Little Women - She's awkward, impulsive, she says the wrong things, she doesn't fit into societies norm about women, she's creative. Winona Ryder captured her perfectly too.

2. Arnie Grape from what's eating Gilbert Grape

Did anyone mention Lisbeth Salander, she of the dragon tattoo? Her counciler in the book surmised that AS was part of what she was, but there are complications: Her hacking skill points to Epileptoid, that much neglected other aspect that is actually more relevant to AS than the Autistic component. Her social disfunction says Autistic, but not the famous tattoo and all the piercing (Autistics don't go for bodily adornments of any kind, even watches and shoes) which seems to indicate a strong Paranoid aspect too, a real witches brew!

The Autistic and Paranoid, are very unlike, the two ego types ascociated with each are polar opposites (but most people have a little of both) but strangely, a significant minority in the C&M results where Paranoid Epileptoid, which cast serious doubts on these diagnoses.

Whatever, the Millenium trilogy is, for my money, the best crime novel ever written; highly recommended!
