It was a cold morning and the temperatures fell to 22.8 degrees F (-5.1 degrees C) in southern Indiana.

Snow fell throughout the day yesterday but the ground was warm and it melted away by nightfall.

Remember to keep the indoor humidity above 10% to avoid getting COVID. For those in cold climates that freeze, the temperatures actually provide a defense against H5N1 because they kill off the primary transmission agent (insects). So just keep the insects from surviving within your homes. The cold outdoor temperatures are actually a good place to enjoy the season of Christmas and the New Year in the cold northern hemisphere.

It is now Astronomical winter in the Northern Hemisphere.

We received close to three inches of snow overnight and into early this morning. Since an inch or less was forecast a pleasant surprise and it makes for pretty scenery that fits in with the holiday season.

Got down into the single digits last night. I think maybe 7F. Tonight's supposed to be a little colder.

We had a little bit of summer late last evening with a thunderstorm that produced the longest continuous round of lighting and loud thunder we have experienced in a number of years. While we have had thundersnow during blizzards I can not recall as an intense winter thunderstorm nor a New Year’s Eve thunderstorm.

We are forecasted to have below normal temperatures the first few weeks of January with computer models suggesting several chances at snow. As the first step we are under a Wind Advisory. Some of those models are coming up with extreme solutions for both cold and snow and these are being used as click bait to attract “weather weenies”. There are three relevant expressions, “It’s a model, not a forecast”, “modelology is not meteorology”, and “It will snow when it wants to snow”.

We have had about three inches of snow this winter so far.

I have a dozen cans of SPAM as emergency supplies.

We had thunder and lightning just a few hours into the New Year.

The temperatures are beginning to fall. It dropped down to 24.3 degrees F (-4.3 degrees C) this morning. There is some snow coming in the next day or two. I might have to get the snow shovels ready. I have around an 800 foot driveway.

It was another cold night in southern Indiana. The temperatures dropped down to 26.4 degrees F. last night. My wife has gotten our snow blower out. I think she is being informed that we might be in for some snowy weather.

Mine is about twice this size because I generally snow blow a 900 foot driveway.

Wow Jimmy that is going to be a job to get your driveway cleared, congrats on the weight loss..?but about now
with the weather predicted here. A few extra pounds for insulation might not be so bad . Our driveway is only about 75 foot. So have been lucky last few years no need to shovel snow, Several years the snowfall has been light here.
Front wheel drive car has no problem with the driveway. But lots of winter storm panick buying .At the markets .
28 F here this morning , but have a temp part time job, which eill require me driving during the storm.Fingers crossed.
That I have no issues with driving .
A phenomina that I have noticed is:( practical advise)
Many people do not do well in the Winter ,, Have helped a few, with breathing issues . Notice most people , are just content to be warm during the winter. And having some shelter ...But often ,is doesnt seem to be considered often
With standard USA diet.? whatever standard might be. They forget that indoor air quality can be a chronic problem
that is not seen as obvious. But a decrease in humidity in the house.Often due to heating issues. The little extra dryness in the air . Can be ...a irritant to the Lungs , then you add the Normal diet?,And you end up with a compromised immune function. That little irritant from dry air exposure during the entire winter. And you end up with chronic inflammation. in the Lungs .Good breeding ground for disease in a persons body. Then you add reduced aur circulation and you end up with a unseen danger of sorts . Bronchitus , possibly pnuemonia . All because the body sees your lungs as being important, so in the bodies limited vocabulary. It moves fluids into the lungs to combat dryness .
Then you add more shallow breathing at night and being hotizontal. And extra good to breed lung issues.
And all the old school methods to combat this , I have been applying with good success. running and keeping a humidifier operating in your sleep area, and a good hepa filter devise for the bedroom. And they do not draw much power normally . Adding sleep,( bed clothes/ pajamas has helped me as I aged...And on bad days , I might take a mucinex tablet to help situations during the day. If you makes these ideas , as a regular thing to do,You might notice better lung health. Also if it gets tough ,to get improvement , might add the occassional Heating pad to sit on your chest
for many hours at night when you lay down.
Stay Warm all ....hope fewer oeople will be suseptable to the dread seasonal virus that get out there . Winter is a good time to do whatever you think will help your immune function daily . Since being stuck inside with the exterior coldness
Vicks vapo rub as wriiten about above can give good benefits too....Good Health to All. :D

Here comes Winter. The temperatures dropped down to 12.6 degrees F (-10.8 degrees C) this morning. I hear we are in for our first Winter Storm. According to the Internet we are going to get around 4 to 8 inches of snow. But my wife said we might get a foot and a half. So I have gotten my snowblower out and now I have to figure out how to use it again. My severe stroke destroyed a lot of my brain cells. Especially the important ones like how to start my big snowblower and how to read. (It is so strange, I can write at normal speeds but I can only read like a snail. Strokes do that to you.)
