Controversy over Jewish-Israili actress playing Virgin Mary
That might be an example of "fantapolitic."
https://www.biblicalarchaeology.org/dai ... r-in-rome/
Technically, Palestinians are also Semites. The term "antisemitic" has taken on a provocative meaning, where any critic of official Israeli policy, or anyone having the least sympathy for any Palestinian, is accused and convicted of being "antisemitic."
Those who object to a Jewish woman playing Mary may or may not be motivated by deeply-felt antisemitism, but are, in my view, just plain silly.
Anyway, I guess that most people have forgotten about the movie already, and are ready to be offended by the next manufactured outrage. The movie wasn't that good to begin with.

You're not obliged to keep engaging until you make a persuasive argument, but others are allowed to point out that you've failed so far to make a persuasive argument or that you've used a lot of words to effectively say nothing.

So objection to casting a Jewish woman as Mary is essentially old fashioned antisemitism, not any particular concern for the plight of Palestinians of any religious affiliation.
What you say above may well be true of some of the people objecting, but probably not all.
As far as I am aware, we don't currently have any Palestinian Christians participating here on WP, but here, earlier in this thread, is my best guess as to how they would likely tend to feel about the casting issue and why.

Really my last reply is: people move, they were seminomad... this is my last reply. Because it is a waste of time reply to american exceptionist people.
Genetic doesn't belong ti nationality.
I mean using merely genetic americans doesn't exist.
Another small reasonement: you are all defending Palestine, which is great, usinf racist and slur methods which is bad.
You are probably the same who doesn't what an arabic doctor I guess because a racist people is racist, just maybe not with whole races.
You are probably believinf being white and male is better... is useless say how horrible to me is.
So, don't blame me for reply with historically proven facts blaming me for being pro Israel.
I don't hate Israel and I don't hate Palestine... there's no culture in this world that I hate.
But I do hate racism.
This is my last reply: why after 11 September 2001 for fashion everybody were racist against muslims and now racist against jews?
Tomorrow will be against who? Americans?
That's my last reply, because that's what I see... racism.

There are Jews who convert to Christianity, even in Israel:
https://blogs.timesofisrael.com/beyneyn ... istianity/
They might not count as "Palestinian", but they count as "Christian", and as "Semitic."
Maybe one of them could be tapped for the next movie?

Jews for Jesus put together a somewhat-famous video "That Jew Died for You"

I gather that it generated considerable controversy. But, it looks like there are some Jewish Christians with acting talent.

You've never met a Catholic?
He lives in France. They haven't seen a Catholic there in 40 years.
This is, I guess, the most viewed Jesus movie
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYX9mkdLIyE
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079368/
The most ACCURATE and BRIGHT movie about Jesus Christ! Let the facts speak for themselves (from the 2004 "Jesus: Fact or Fiction" DVD):
= "The most historically accurate film about the life of Jesus Christ"
= "By far the most translated film in history, translated to over 800 languages"
= "5 billion viewers worldwide" (1979-2003)
= "After viewing the film, more than 300 million people have indicated a decision to follow the teachings of Jesus"
Actually filmed in Israel (the one we were discussing was filmed in Morocco).
Mary is played by Rivka Neumann https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rivka_Neumann
She is Israeli and a lesbian--which might make her an authentic virgin, I don't know.
So, your assignment is to watch the film, and let us know if it caused you to decide to follow the teachings of Jesus.

Israeli Actress Noa Cohen Responds to Backlash About Her Playing Jesus’s Mother in Netflix Film ‘Mary’
Israeli actress Noa Cohen defended the decision to cast her as Mary of Nazareth, the mother of Jesus...and also admitted she was not surprised about the social media uproar regarding the casting.
“I expected it but you know what, I feel like DJ [Caruso, the director], our producer, and the rest of the team did the best they could to stay as authentic as possible and they just wanted to find the right person and the right cast for the job,” Cohen told the Associated Press on Tuesday. “And I am a Jewish woman, who’s playing a Jewish woman. I grew up in Israel, which is modern day Judea, which is where Mary grew up. So I feel very, very comfortable portraying her and I did that from a place of true sincerity in my heart.”
“People don’t have to like it, but I like this role very much and I’m very, very proud of it,” she concluded...
...After the trailer for “Mary” premiered, pro-Palestinian activists on social media quickly lambasted the filmmakers and called for a boycott of the film because an Israeli Jewish actress was cast to play the lead role. They falsely claimed that Mary and Joseph were Palestinian, and that Jesus was also Palestinian or “a Palestinian Jew.” The Palestinian media outlet Quds Media Network also related the film to the “ongoing genocide of Christians in Palestine.”
Cohen shared in an interview on Tuesday night that she received multiple death threats while filming the Netflix project in Morocco last year.
“I got messages from Moroccan profiles [on social media] who said they know ‘what hotel you’re staying at,'” she told the Keshet 12 Israeli television program “Good Evening With Guy Pines,” according to The Jerusalem Post. “That didn’t make me feel the safest in the world. And you go to film in what is, after all, a Muslim country, Morocco … and you need a special visa to get in, and you have to have heavy security guarding you at all times.”
“It was scary. Some people began to understand that I was in Morocco and I got messages on Instagram, I got threats, the feeling wasn’t always the most comfortable,” Cohen added. She also said that once the trailer was released, “it was amazing to see how the responses started with ‘Zionist,’ then went to ‘Israeli,’ and finally ended up with straight-up ‘Jew … you Jewish whore’ — excuse the language. It was amazing to see how much of it was pure antisemitism and not anything else.”...
Not very nice at all.

'A disgusting Jew': Uproar after Netflix casts Jewish-Israeli actress to play Mary, Jesus's mom
Noa Cohen, a 21-year-old Israeli actress, portrays the world’s most famous Jewish mom in the movie, but some social media users are calling for a boycott.
...An X user called America First ZOE (AFZ) posted an image of Cohen’s Instagram account, writing, “A disgusting Jew got the part. lol.”
Red Pill Media wrote, “Jews created this and the actors are jewish. No thanks.”
Kathy, an X user whose bio reads, “It’s Palestine. It will always be Palestine,” wrote, “F**k you. I’m an offended Catholic. F**king have an Israeli play Mary? May you all be f**king smited. Blasphemous”
Salim wrote, “And the cast are Israelis! The ones who call mother of god a w**** and rejects her son! What a farce! Lots of indigenous Levantine Christian actors yet they casted Zionist settlers for the role of the life of Jesus christ mother”...
...Many of those commenting flaunted an almost unfathomable ignorance about the basic history of one of the world’s major religions.
Jeff Stan wrote on X/Twitter, “Mary was not a ‘Jew’.” Adam Kout said, “As a muslim you have no right to insult mother Mary, one of the best female figures in Islam.”
Elica Le Bon, the Iranian activist, attorney, and influencer who devotes herself to opposing the lies of the Islamic Republic of Iran, its proxies such as Hamas and Hezbollah, and their followers around the world, condemned this outpouring of antisemitism, saying: “The internet is having a melt down that a Jewish woman of the land 2,000 years ago is being played by a Jewish woman of the land today. Why? Because it reminds us of Jewish indigeneity before conquests & defeats their white colonizer narrative - a lie they’ll die to protect.”...
Jews must be accustomed to this by now.

...She shares photos of herself alongside her boyfriend Sharar on her Instagram...
A boyfriend. This might arouse suspicion that Miss Cohen isn't really a virgin.

But I did discover where the Monty Python "it's" man came from, around 14:05 in. (and an example of over-acting at its finest)
Apparently being cast out of the Garden of Eden is also responsible for beards.
Adam was inexplicably but immaculately shaven until then - but suddenly >bam< a thick beard.
God moves in mysterious and hirsute ways, it seems.

Another fun Jesus movie is The First Temptation of Christ
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RP7Xv0utRNQ
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11310004/
This one got even more damning reviews than Mary (2024).
It is shocking to discover that Netflix have zero respect or consideration for those of the Christian faith regarding their decision to add The first temptation of Christ to their growing catalog of shows. The streaming service has listed the Brazilian short film (added on Dec 3rd 2019) as a international comedy and synopsis reads
”Jesus, who's hitting the big 3-0, brings a surprise guest to meet the family. A Christmas special so wrong, it must be from comedians Porta dos Fundos.“
This is far from funny but downright disrespectful and a highly offensive degradation of Jesus Christ. one review described the storyline:
“...Jesus (Gregório Duvivier) attends his 30th birthday surprise party with his boyfriend Orlando (Fábio Porchat). The party, thrown by José (Rafael Portugal) and Maria (Evelyn Castro), has a number of high-profile biblical guests, including God (Antonio Tabet), which prompts plenty of debate about parental rights and responsibilities as Christ grapples not just with his parentage but with his own spiritual journey.”
This mockery of Jesus should not be deemed as satire but an intentional attempt to attack the fundamental beliefs that uphold the Christian faith. It is anti-Christ in every sense of the word and a direct demonstration of hatred against all who profess to be bible-believing Christians.
I therefore petition Netflix to remove this disgusting and highly offensive, blasphemous movie immediately.
Evelyn Castro played Mary.
https://www.instagram.com/evelyncastrooficial/?hl=en
She is a Brazilian actress, even further removed from Jesus' birthplace than Noa Cohen. Probably not a virgin.
Still, The First Temptation of Christ is worth a watch, if you can find it.

The butthurt in this review is overwhelming. Satire isn't satire, it's an attack sounds like something the Charlie Hebdo attackers would have said.
