I might as well get a jump start on the topic.

The CAA is completely different now with Anthony Grant, Eric Maynor and an assitant coach with two other players leaving VCU. This departures from VCU make the CAA wide opened for any team to take the championships. Mason is the most likely team to do so because Mason is the #1 mid major recruiting class of 2009.

I also have a hunch that 2010 is Mason's year since 2010 is very similar to 2006.

I mean by 2006 is that Michigan State and UNC were both in the Final Four in 2005, UNC were the defending national champions and Indianapolis was the location for the Final Four in 2006.

UCONN, Michigan State, and UNC were the three big teams Mason beat to reach the Final Four along with a true bracket buster against Wichita State in 2006.

The only difference I see for 2010 from 2006 is that Florida is in rebuilding mode with their program, LSU is not really in their 2006 mode and ULCA after three straight runs to the Final Four, they are off key with their second round lose to Villanova.

Big Ten Conference for one thing is a major conference so they have more teams getting in through at large bids. However, the chance of a national championships are slim and making to the Final Four are the same chance for any team. You should really look at all conferences in Division I from top to bottom. Mason is a threat as a mid-major team since if you watch 2006 Michigan State was beaten by Mason and so were UCONN and UNC. Almost every mid-major teams are a real threat to all of the powerhouse conferences.

No wonder teams do not like to schedule quality mid-major teams. Sigh... Thanks anyway.

Actually in 2006, I was referring to the NCAA Tournament where you can not pick your opponent at all. Most major conferences teams will schedule games against mid-majors but in limited numbers due to the RPI and Strength of Schedule system which the Selection Committee will use for the field of 64 in March. Mid-majors will scheduled games against major conferences and they happened a quite a bit in non-conference play. RPI and SOS is what on the minds of all NCAA Division I Team during the season to make the big dance if they do not win the auto bid for their conference.

Oh thanks for guiding me along for college basketball. I am only a recent convert to the game as I previously watched NBA. nevertheless, well, let's hope our favorite teams, Mason and a good Big Ten team will do well in the upcoming season (that's so far off but I will still wait) and of course, make it into the NCAA tournament... and eventually go far.

By the way, can anyone share with me here what started your interest in college basketball?

^You're welcome.

For your interest question, my interest in college basketball came went I recorded and watched the 2008 CAA Championships in Richmond. I pretty much recorded the Mason games. First beating Northeastern in Second Round Play. Second, getting revenge at UNCW in the Semifinals (lost twice to UNCW in the regular season). Then taking the championship from William and Mary who eliminated VCU the day before. Mason would lose to the Fighting Irishs of Notre Dame in the opening round of the 2008 Tourney. Through out the 2008-2009 season, I became a member of the Patriot Platoon and went to all the home games. Even when down for the game at VCU and the Championships in Richmond. I was actually of the top three members of the Platoon who went to all the home games during the season.

Mason by looks has a tough non-conference schedule with some high profile teams like Creighton, Dayton and others.

But do you have confidence with Mason winning the conference and enter March Madness?

I have high confidence that Mason could win the conference for the auto bid or at a large bid with our RPI and Strength of Schedule ranking.

There are rumors that Mason will play Villanova in the first game of the Puerto Rico Tip Off Tournament.
