So, I'm wanting to convert and edit (basic splitting and splicing) some DVD tracks and some .MOV files to .mpg so I can upload to YouTube.

Surfing around I found some free apps:

I found super from eRightSoft:
http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html
it is very no frills and seems to fail about 90% of the time...

I just found Avidemux:
http://www.avidemux.org/admForum/
I haven't tried it yet...

Do you guys have any suggestions?

You might try doom9.net -- click on 'download' on the front page to get to the list of tools, there's a ton.

Try Sourceforge; tens of thousands of Open Source programs. Should be something in there.

There's stuff in mencoder / mplayer that may help:

www.mplayerhq.hu

Reading the manual's heavy going, but there are one or two windows gui wrappers that may serve - depends on what your needs actually are.

Past that, you could go to Linux and Kino or Cinelerra. The trouble with windows is that its native formats tend to be proprietary; so the software follows suit.

Doesn't everyone here use a PC? I mean PC does stand for personal computer.
