i don't know, i was just wanting to mention the idea as i was typing my other forum post becuase of this side ad that was on this very website which had that infamous dragon-like eye from the lord of the rings to advertise that online game they came out with. trust me, i may be high on the autism spectrum but sometimes it's just the little things that bother me...then i turn on the tv every now and then and see this uber-violent movie previews on perfectly straight-laced-seeming sports showings on regular channels or just about anywhere you would least expect. i guess it's all the same. but if you consider what i stated to be more than just an annoying turn-off, more of a disturbance to the mind, feel free to shout-out!

later peeps

No, the only ones that bother me are the ones that move around and/or block what you want to see - and ESPECIALLY ones that talk.

The moving ads drive me nuts, too, as well as the ones that blink wildly (thankfully, I've only seen a few of these.) I don't like webpages with sound in general unless it's a video of some kind.

Patricia

I hate anything that autoplays sound - especially since a lot of times I'm listening to a podcast and that screws it up. I wish there was a way with IE to make it that it wouldn't happen.

Ooooh, me too, especially since I often turn the volume all the way up in order to hear a quiet YouTube video and then a random voice is like "OH HI YOU'VE WON A WII" and I'm like "JESUS CHRIST ON A POPSICLE"

Exactly. I jump out of my skin every time. However, blogs or other websites that play musical selections are just as bad, in my opinion.

If you have firefox you can download adblock and flashblock.

Flashblock blocks all annoying flashing ads that use flash.

Adblock can be used if you dont like the look of an ad, or if you dont like someones avatar even. Just rightclick the image and apply filter and you will never see that image again.

Oh, I hate every single banner ad I've seen! I especially loathe the talking ones.... That happens every page I go to on another site.

I have redirected all ads on my system to my local host address. Consequently they do not show. If you wish to do this (it is free) and you are running Internet Explorer, please use this link:

http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

You will need a medium-low level of computer expertise or good reading and logic skills to implement this file.

Classmates.com ads are some of the absolute worst!

Often forget net ads exist, having been a ff and ad block user for a long time.

Quote:

if that has got a subscription [one have to pay for] option, that will be why-they do it on all the sites am have used that also have subscriptions, they overload the site with ads [whether for themself or others] to get people to go onto the ad free paid account.

I seem to get lots of ones for 1) breast enlargement, 2) weight loss and 3) bras on some of the sites I visit. It is troubling, because I do not have breasts, I am not overweight and I do not wear bras.

LOL
It seems like recently the AIs are getting better at guessing what ads we might be interested in from the content of the pages we're reading, but I still get some random ones like that too. XD;
