Hi all,
Toung in cheek and all.

I have someone starting in my group who by all appearences is NT.

She did well in the interviews and had great references and all - she has a few weaknesses like she cannot run software simulations in her head and cannot feel when something is a good solution - but she is just starting her career.

I plan to explain the differences in thought patterns, mind blindness and such to her. Tell her to speak up if she has questions or issues because none of us will notice otherwise. We'll also give her job coaching feedback - mostly technical stuff, different approaches.

Anyone ever done this? All advice welcome

I think you're getting her off to an excellent start. Appropriate and clear verbal communication is key. And make sure to explain to her that chit-chat is not allowed at the office, and that people do not go out together for lunch.

Thought I'd catch you all up on Kate the NT.

She is doing ok. Seems abit surprised about the no chat rule. I put it to her in a positive way and said that she was welcome to chat at work so long as she left our area and went to the library or conversation area. We also introduced her to some marketing types so that she does not expect us to eat lunch with her and talk every day.

Kate also seems amazed that we are treating her as an equal and giving her chances to participate in ational committes and conferences.- is it traditional to treat interns badly?

That sounds like a horrible rule. I'd die if I worked in that strict of an environment.

I wish I could work at an environment like that. I'm dying now because of all the social pressures where I work.
