Sorry I posted this in news section, but since this is important I've posted it again.

Dr. Phil will be discussing AS today.

Dr. Phil 3 p.m. EST NBC 17th Jan: The doctor talks about Asperger's syndrome and Tourette's syndrome.

This is Dr. Phil's local TV listings page
http://www.drphil.com/shows/listing/

Anyone see the show, I’m in Ireland so I wont see it for a few weeks or ever.

Was the show good or bad?

I read the Dr. Phil website. The show seemed to dwell on anger issues and AS, if it were a diagnostic criteria. I’m worried it would give a narrow and incorrect idea of AS.

Most local stations will show Dr. Phil at 3pm EST, CST, MST and PST. Some other stations show it at 4 or 5pm.

You will need to register on their website

and here is their message board for the Show for AS and TS
http://www.drphil.com/messageboard/topic/914

and this is their email contact
http://www.drphil.com/plugger/respond/?plugID=9164

From what you've written, it seems like the show hasn't aired yet.

Yes, it will air in just under 2 hours. Time is now 18:40 UTC - 1.40pm EST. Show will air at 3pm EST or 4 or 5pm on some TV station.

I'd like people to watch it and comment on it.

It is very important that we make sure that the "media" e.g. Dr. Phil, correctly informs the general public regarding the nature of AS.

This may well be the most watched program on AS in the U.S. to date. If this show is below standard we should make our opinions heard. Equally if the show does a good job we should congratulate the show.

It was aired at 9 AM here in Gainesville. This is literally the ONLY town in Florida to air the show in the morning.

Well, I was impressed by the fact that they talked about the neurological/biological basis of AS, rather than blaming it on bad behavior, lack of self control, etc. The only thing I didn't like was the way they focused so much on Alex's meltdowns and violent behavior without mentioning much about other aspie traits - a little misleading for people who don't know anything about AS or autism. Obviously they're trying to help Alex so they're gonna focus on his specific issues, but a little more general AS info would have been good if they had time to fit it in.

I don't believe Dr. Phil sometimes, but I do think he's funny.

I agree completely. I was thinking the exact same thing.

It was also a little disturbing how they opened with the incident of Will Fruend, however.

Yeah, that part was a little disturbing - the rest of the show made us look violent enough without bringing up Will Freund. It did lead to more publicity for WP though - 256 visitors online right now. Our job now is to provide accurate info for all these guests...

Was it on the first or second half of the show? It's on again at 10:00 p.m. here, and if I can stay awake for it I may watch it, but I will probably fade out by 10:30.

THere are some nasty comments towards the mum on that thread, just because Alex [the child on the show] doesn't act like their AS child,it doesn't mean it has been caused by bad parenting.

You're in luck, it's the first half.

I haven't looked through the whole message board, but I did have some negative feelings toward the mother, myself, while watching the program. She said some nasty things about her child. She did, however, also say that she felt very bad about it, and that she knew it wasn't the appropriate reaction.
