Apperently PETA is mourning over a fly that Obama swatted....
You gotta read this to believe it.

WASHINGTON -- The group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wants the flyswatter in chief to try taking a more humane attitude the next time he's bedeviled by a fly in the White House.

PETA is sending President Barack Obama a Katcha Bug Humane Bug Catcher, a device that allows users to trap a house fly and then release it outside.

"We support compassion even for the most curious, smallest and least sympathetic animals," PETA spokesman Bruce Friedrich said Wednesday. "We believe that people, where they can be compassionate, should be, for all animals."

During an interview for CNBC at the White House on Tuesday, a fly intruded on Obama's conversation with correspondent John Harwood.

"Get out of here," the president told the pesky insect. When it didn't, he waited for the fly to settle, put his hand up and then smacked it dead.

"Now, where were we?" Obama asked Harwood. Then he added: "That was pretty impressive, wasn't it? I got the sucker."

Friedrich said that PETA was pleased with Obama's voting record in the Senate on behalf of animal rights and noted that he has been outspoken against animal abuses.

Still, "swatting a fly on TV indicates he's not perfect," Friedrich said, "and we're happy to say that we wish he hadn't."

Deputy press secretary Josh Earnest said the White House has no comment on the matter.

No wonder Temple Grandin has been able to bring about more changes in the way that animals are treated than PETA. She is actually willing to work with the industry for change rather than against every little slight to animals.

If PETA really wants to live the way they preach, I want them to live by a mosquito producing swamps where they are not allowed to use anything that kills or repels mosquitos. They also cannot kill them with their bare hands. I bet you they would not last 1 week before they swore off this every animal must live kick (provided they have enough blood in their system to actually be conscience when all is said and done.

Lol somebody get these people a hamburger for Pete's sake (whoever Pete is). I do put spiders outdoors but I will not waste my time trying to catch a fly humanely! The reason spiders get the preferential treatment is because they are the ones that take care of the pesky flies in the first place!

*Groans and face-palms*

I'm sorry PETA, but if a fly bothers me, and I get the chance, I will kill it. Otherwise it'll go around breeding and creating a mini swarm in the house. Geeze.

Am I to assume that PETA doesn't do anything about flea infestations on the dogs they keep in all those humane shelters? What about those too-often occasions when their founder gets a case of crabs, does she just let em be?

She probably names them and has a favourite!

Just for argument sake, if a person where to suck the blood of a animal, PETA will go nuts, but if a mosquito sucks the blood of a person, they demand that you don't kill it.

So basically what they are saying is animals can do what they please to us, but we can't lay a hand on them.

The fact that this group has supporters is mystifying!

Spiders Rock! (unless they decide to make a web near my bed or bathroom-eww, creeps me out if I find one near the shower or toilet/only once in like five yrs.). Oh, please, PETA needs to be more realistic  (stop direct abuse/torture of animals instead). Like them changing is going to happen (I think it is in human nature to resist all forms of change & admit your ego is to big to see solutions that are right in front of your face)! Obama can swat flies whenever he wants (expecting perfection is the epitome of being unrealistic). I like spiders, but think Spider Man movies are beyond corny (no offense 2 spidey fans). Prefer Star Wars (plus it encourages balance if you look at it from a weird philosophical point of view) & Wookies are cool :)(':nerdy:') (remind me somewhat of bears, save them not little annoying, buzzy flies)!

Sorry about bad spelling

The fly that B.O. slew bore a significant resemblance to John McCain. And the little fly was crying --- "help me, help me"----

<-- Checks to make sure it isn't April 1st...

The biggest risk PETA runs with this is that they're not picking their battles; this is generating the wrong kind of attention. They should be making headlines over puppy mills, inhumane slaughterhouses and cosmetics companies.

On a personal note, while I AGREE with the concept of releasing bugs back to the outside, I DISAGREE with shoving that philosophy onto someone else.

Yeah they need to start focusing on REAL animal rights issues. I mean how many animals are suffering every day because of people? And they're worried about a FLY?! Hmm maybe we should send Obama to court and find him guilty of 'flyicide'

Obvious marketing ploy by PETA to bring attention to a product which they probably have a vested interest in pushing.

Maybe some of us should beat PETA to the punch and start defending the rights of single celled organisms and get that coveted fat govt. stimulus money too. We could call it, People for the Ethical Treatment of Amoebas (PETA).

Don't get me started on PETA.

Representatives from both them and Greenpeace are active at my school. Greenpeace has committed terrorist acts in the past.
