I might as well be asking to be a mod, but we need to have some sort of select people to correct incorrect spelling and grammar in posts. Or maybe a proper grammar seminar, I don't know. I just know that "too" and "to" have different meanings, and that there's too many people that suck at spelling. I'd gladly go and correct spelling when I see errors.

I realize that poor spelling/grammar may be a pet peeve for some of you, but we really can't be having people edit others' posts or doing anything else to combat poor spelling. A better idea might be to incorporate a spell-checking feature, but that won't correct things like the to/too mixup.

You have that much free time on your hands? Besides, didn't you say you weren't at all like an analytopath? Sounds like a very analytopathic proposal to me.

Well, I admit at times bad grammar or spelling can be a little irksome, but this is a pretty informal forum, so I don't see the need for someone to go about correcting other people's posts. Besides, if it's mere typos it's a little on the petty side to make a big deal out of it. I know I make several mistakes because my keyboard's full of sticky keys that don't work like theyshould, I'm not a great typist on top of that and I don't have time to proofread everything I type as though it was a master's thesis - so if you wish to make a fuss over my mistakes, I'd readily say get over it!

More importantly, it would be quite intrusive if mods went in and changed things in members' posts, especially if without the consent of the poster or the knowledge of the rest of the forum. I personally would not be comfortable with that.

Of course, one option would be for you to make posts informing people of a poster's errors. That should make you very popular.

Suffice to say, no one likes a Nazi. I suggest you find another hobby to pursue.

Yes, there are too many people like that. And they're whos, not thats.

PS: even I woudn't go crazy enough to suggest a moderator just for grammar. But I am available for private lessons.

A spell-checking feature would be nice. As for things like confusing "to" and too" or "they're" and "their" or whatever, I'd say learn to live and let live.

Some aspies are obsessive when it comes to correct spelling and grammar. Isn't it interesting how we're all different? I'm one of those annoying people who like words to be spelled and used correctly. Part of the reason is that I find language fascinating and words, language and word games are one of my perseverations.

I used to correct people until one too many people got mad at me, and I learned that it wasn't socially acceptable. I was probably in my early 20's before I learned that rule.

English is not the native language for many posters, so perhaps we should be impressed that they speak English as well as they do and not fret over some typos or poorly structured sentences.

This is an absurd suggestion. As mentioned, not everyone speaks english natively (only a few billion people, mind). Some people might have learning difficulties, and there's nothing worse than threads being derailed by spelling and grammar issues.

I also have the tiniest hint of dyslexia which usually means I have to edit my post several times to ensure it reads ok, even when it was ok the first time. I really don't need someone trying to figure out what I was trying to say because it's often not too obvious. That said, if you want to suggest improvements to my grammar, feel free to send me a PM.

The use of correct grammar can help in putting over what you want to say clearly and accurately. It avoids ambiguity and allows the reader to understand your point more easily. I’ve noticed that non-native English speakers have a good grasp of English grammar, because they were taught grammar when learning the language.
Grammar is just a set of rules that structure a language. I don’t think that it should be a stick to beat anyone over the head with, and I don’t correct other people’s errors. However, I do find it annoying when certain grammatical rules are broken. My own pet peeve is when adjectives are used in place of adverbs. I think that it was Apple that used the advertising slogan “Think Different”. Seeing that on billboards made me want to scream…

I have a difficult time with poor spelling/grammar as well, but I've learned to get over a lot of that because my NT sister always writes sentences like "want 2 go 2 the park? btw, lol about ur joke..." and et cetera.

The mods aren't really here to be spelling/grammar police, but rather to make sure the content is appropriate. If there is a message that is difficult to understand because of spelling and/or grammar, it would be likely that we ask the person to edit their posts themselves. As a mod, the only thing like that I ever correct is BBCode, just to make sure it's working properly. (Quite often, people forget to put their closing tag- or part of one of the tags- on different elements, especially quotes.)
