I just saw the trailer for Adam and I think it looks good. He has Aspergers and it comes out in June. The trailer is on this link:

What does everyone else think?

It looks like a fantasy, a romantic comedy with an Asperger guy.

A realistic plot line would have a guy sitting alone playing Minesweeper for the first half of the movie. In the second half he stares at a wall.

I'm afraid that if Adam is to be taken as an example of Aspies, as will be seen by film audiences, then the example they will see causes me serious concern.

What would be good if it somehow conveyed how people can have ASDs and have totaly different levels of functioning etc. Maybe like if it showed his family, like a sister or something that had the same but lesser traits, but clearly asd as well. Am I making sence?

I think the movie looks good and is an accurate (as movies can possibly get in the frames they have to work with), depiction of one person with Asperger syndrome.

Well it seems good and should raise awareness of AS in general. I'm afraid it may be a bit too stereotypical, though :?

We shall see! I look foward to seeing it :)

Looks good. I have always wanted to create a mural of New York City or Chicago on my walls, and this may encourage me to do it yet after seeing the way he put the stars on his walls.

I'll see it, on the very off-chance that it actually represents AS in a realistic light. However, more likely, I will be very disenchanted with the stereotypes in the film, and I will sit and complain and be angry throughout the entire film. After having seen the trailer, I can say that it at least looks better than Mozart and the Whale, but it already shows itself to be highly stereotypical. Male Aspie, special interest in some area of physics/mathematics, etc.

I don't mind the stereotyping. AS is all about stereotyping, thats what it is. Nobody thinks to complain that every other movie stereotypes neuro-typicals. Im OK with this movie.

Its the plot line involving romance that is irritating. They don't quite get it.

For many people AS is more subtle (undetectable) and at the same time more destructive.

I want to see that film. I hope it comes to the UK or is shown on British television. Hugh Dancy who takes the part of Adam is British.

Yeah this is along the lines of what I was thinking about the trailer. Adam seems more blatant/autistic than subtle/AS. And I'm afraid that it may lead to even more accusations of 'You don't have that!!' because people will think that is what AS is like.

*Shrug* I suppose its impossible to do without stereotyping and being blatant. There's no real way to make the audience feel how it really feels.

Although a realistic AS film with a subtle character would be very boring.
I think the best portrayal of AS and autsim is the film "the magnificent 7" with helena bonham carter about that woman with 4 autistic sons, it manages to be quite blatant but still realistic enough at the same time.
