Which do you prefer - Adobe PhotoShop or Gimp?
Adobe PhotoShop is surprisingly my choice. I say 'surprisingly' since I usually (but not always) find better alternatives to well-known proprietary software. Gimp is highly capable software, and if I were too dumb to know how to crack software, I'd be content with it.
Gimp has some great features which Adobe PhotoShop lacks (like support for Lanczos interpolation), and vice-versa, but Gimp is far more lacking when it comes to features in my opinion.

I can't vote on this because I use Paint Shop Pro, which is not on the ballot paper. I've opened the GIMP a few times when dabbling in Linux but I've never had the patience to sit and work out how to use it, knowing that I already have PSP.

Im familiar with Photoshop since years and ticked that one even if I have never tried the Gimp. I have only heard about it and believe its a free software you can download from the internet...and I use to be suspicious towards free stuff like that as they use to lack features I require....but Im curious to see what Gimp is.....

I have no idea what Gimp is.... so I am going to have to side with photoshop on this one. I do all my image editing on it.
It is an attempt to replace Photoshop with a free, open-source program. It has rather mixed reviews as to its quality, though for the law-abiding computer users it certainly is a good deal cheaper.

I don't think the GIMP is really meant to be a competitor to Photoshop, not in the same way OSS advocates are pushing for Linux as a competitor to OS/X and Windows as a desktop OS. If I were a professional graphic artist, I'd need Photoshop, but the GIMP works for me on the rare occasions where I need to do some graphics editing, but in any case I feel like its an apples to oranges comparison.

Photoshop is definitely way more powerful than GIMP in pretty much every aspect.
I prefer GIMP because I am used to it and does what I need very well. But I really have to hand the victory to photoshop on this one, no contest as gramirez says.
