Hi, I'm Emmi, diagnosed as Asperger's Disorder less than a year ago (at the ripe age of 22).

It was a long time coming, as I have been in and out of DXs (ADHD, hyperlexia, OCD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Anorexia Nervosa) for my entire life.

All of my social/emotional/learning/eating/behavioral difficulties that flitted throughout my life finally made (well, a little) sense.

I am 22, female, live in Texas.

I am Jewish, and left-handed and I study Linguistics.

I look, breathe, walk and talk Asperger's disorder in almost every way.

Welcome to WP!

What part of Texas are you from? I'm in the San Antonio-Austin area.

Welcome to WP. The AS diagnosis has a way of bringing together seemingly disparate parts of one's life. I had a similar experience when diagnosed. Otherwise contradictory or fuzzy diagnoses were replaced with some sense of order and clarity.

Or lack thereof, given that we're in the middle of a drought.

Hi, left-handed Emmi, and welcome. I'm ambidextrous, by the way. I hope you'll feel at home here.

I'm right handed for everything. Writing, lifting, pointing, waving, wearing a watch, wearing a ring, stirring a cooking pot, wielding a gunblade, and flipping the bird all feel more natural on my right hand. Very rarely do I use my left.

Incidentally, if you're trying to focus on something with one eye (such as peering through a hole in the fence or sighting a sniper scope), do you tend to use the same side as your hand? I find it easier to use my right eye (same as my hand) on these occasions.

Perhaps we should start a new thread, but...

I have not really been aware of how I have used my hands. Someone has asked me before, whether I was left-handed, because they have seen me tie my shoes or do some other tasks that way. During my recent AS diagnosis, part of the tests included moving my hands and doing tasks with my hands. The written report stated that I was ambidextrous. Now that I think of it, I prefer one hand on one task and another for another. And for some things I use whichever is closest to the target. I write using my right hand, because that's how they tought at school. I tie my shoes the left-handed way. I use my mouse with my right, but the mouse controls on my laptop with my left, and so on.

I think I do.

Welcome Emmi

I found out I was AS only a couple of months ago and I'm 55. So, your dx is rather early in my books. Of course, they didn't know about AS when I was growing up.

Like OddFinn, I tend to use both hands. At work, I have the mouse on the left with the buttons swapped. At home, it is set up normally so others can use it easily. So, I'm very adaptable in that way.

Roxas_XIII mentioned about firing a weapon. I couldn't think of firing a weapon with anything other than my left hand.

Hi Emmi, welcome here. :) It's nice to meet you.

Interesting that you study linguistics. This was my uni major, too, but only for 2 months.
