Comic Strip With Some Autism Themes in Syndication
Comic Strip With Some Autism Themes in Syndication to Major Publications Clear Blue Water by Karen Montague-Reyes
It's been five months since the introduction of Clear Blue Water, a comic strip about a multiracial family in the throes of some serious life changes, and already, cartoonist Karen Montague-Reyes is seeing success at the end of a long journey that brought the mother of five to national syndication. You can see the strip here: http://www.ucomics.com/clearbluewater/
As far as I got back, it looks like the thread starts at ...

I found her strip from today's date (11/16/04) to be extremely offensive as she has the parents talk about committing 'suicide' after finding out their child has autism and they are currently pregnant with twins. I think this strip is in such poor taste and offensive honestly. Having a child diagnosed with Autism/AS is not a 'death sentence'.
I saw that! Someone posted it on another message board I read on AOL. I also found it to be in extremely poor taste. Disgusting, actually.
I agree it is offensive to *me*. However; after considering it; I think she was trying to be honest that a lot of parents do feel that way at first. It would be good if she uses the comic to show that Seth (the autistic child in the comic) is not 'dead' because of autism; just different. We can't say where she's going; she was just revealing how many parents do feel.
