I love foreign music, hardly anything on my iPod is in English, LOL.

This is my favourite song ever, it's Spanish:

Here's a Russian one that's quite cool:

I love Rusian music too but 1. I can never find any good russian singers and 2. I prefer women russian singers cuz it doesn't sound good to me when Russian men sing for some reason :? . I like Origa who sings russian music for the theme songs of the anime Ghost in a shell

I know what you mean about the female singers being better than the male singers.

I enjoy French chanson singers like Jacques Brel, Yves Montand, and Barbara. Really good stuff.

I strongly believe that Jacques Brel was one of the greatest performers who ever lived. He definitely has the most arresting voice that I have ever heard in all of music. I am in awe every time I listen to him. See for yourself:

And here, a favorite song of mine by Yves Montand:

It is partly because of songs like these, sung with such passion and charm, that I am learning French now.

Ever since I saw Death Note, I've been listening to alot of Maximum the Hormone, but that's been about it as far as forgein music goes :(

Does anyone else know any similar sounding bands?

There's just something about listening to music whose lyrics you can't understand that makes it all the more intriguing...

I don't listen to foreign music on a regular basis, but there are some that I like. For a while I was really into Celtic music, particularly in Gaelic (despite the fact I couldn't understand anything being said...just a beautiful language). My favorites were Anuna and Enya. I also liked Gaelic storm.

I prefer the original German versions of "99 Luftballons" and "Der Kommissar," again without being able to understand the lyrics.

I've listened to J-Pop from time to time, but I couldn't tell you any bands or songs (does "Sukiyaki" count as J-Pop, because I love that song).

This thread, particularly the posts about Russian music, reminded me of The Red Elvises. I used to see them perform whenever I went to the 3rd Street Promenande in Santa Monica (first time I'd ever seen a bass balalaika... 8O ), though I haven't been there in a long time so I don't know if they still perform there. I found these videos on Youtube:

I love surf music, so this is one of my favorites of theirs:

This is a song in Fremen, a fictional language related to modern day Arabic that is spoken by the native people of Arrakis. The language is from the book series Dune by Frank Herbert and his son. The song is so beautiful, I almost cried the first time I listened to it and I'm a guy! 8O

I also like this group. I can't understand what they're saying, but it feels very spiritual to me for some reason.

I also listen to the late Ali Farka Toure a Desert Blues Singer from Mali
and every Sturday night I catch an hour of Thistle & Shamrock on my local NPR station followed by Echoes which
plays world and ambient music through the night.
